Productive Study Breaks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

Finals are nearly here.  Whether you are on your way to preparing or have already begun to study, you’re probably dreading the inevitable process—and already thinking about taking a break.  Because let’s face it: at one point or another, you are going to need to step away from your notes and mentally recharge.  In fact, you will probably find yourself doing so multiple times.  So while checking Facebook is the easiest way to take a breather, if you’re looking for a more productive study break, we have some ideas for you!

*Work Out.  When you’re getting restless, pack up your gym bag and get moving!  It’s always nice to stretch your legs and get the adrenaline pumping (even if it’s only for thirty minutes).  Not only that, the physical exercise will also help clear your mind, so that when you come back to your notes, you’ll be energized and mentally recharged.

*Clean Your Room.  This may not sound like the most interesting study break, but you’d be surprise at how relaxing it can actually be.  You can organize your desk or closet, vacuum/sweep, make your bed, scrub the bathroom and wash dishes.  And while those aren’t exactly pleasant tasks, they have to be done at some point and then you don’t have to worry about it when you leave for spring break!

*Paint Your Nails.  It’s relaxing, requires virtually no mental activity, and you’ll have something pretty to show off when you are finished!  You can stick to one color, mix and match, or (if you are super creative) paint them with an interesting design.

*Read A Book.  You know that book you started over winter break but never got to finish?  Well, here’s your chance to continue where you were forced to stop reading.  Take some time to immerse yourself in a fictional world and forget about the stress of finals.  If you are currently not in the middle of a book, you can always pick up a new one (our pick is the Hunger Games series that everyone is talking about!) that you’ll be able to finish over break.

*Organize Your Inbox.  Everyone knows that college students are swamped with daily e-mails, so it might be the perfect time to start ridding your inbox of unwanted messages.  If you are like me and have multiple e-mail accounts, there’s even more work to be done.  But think of how happy you’ll be to know you have a fresh start for when the new quarter begins!
