Brianna Pecsok- Jewish Advocate and Hillel Leader.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

This week, Her Campus OSU met with Hillel Vice President of Students/ President of Student Board Representatives, Brianna Pecsok.  We got a chance to talk to her about her involvement in Hillel and the benefits of being affiliated with an organization on campus.  Brianna isn’t just a hardworking student, but a dedicated advocate for Jewish life on OSU’s campus.

Name: Brianna Pecsok

Hometown: Cincinnati, OH

Hobbies: Art (photography, drawing), music (singing, piano, concerts, listening to music), social media, being active (yoga, rock climbing, biking)

Major: International Studies

HC: What do you enjoy most about the Hillel here at OSU?

BP: I enjoy the strong and vibrant community of students that are excited about being Jewish.  Friday night Shabbat services and dinner provide closure for a crazy week.  The staff and café are wonderful, making Hillel a great place to be.

HC: What is your leadership position at Hillel?

BP: I’m the Vice President of Students and President of Student Board Representatives.

HC: As a high-priority member of Hillel, how have you balanced your course load and time involved in Jewish events?

BP: As with anything, it’s about time management, prioritizing, and asking for help.

HC: What advice would you give to people seeking a more involved Jewish presence here on campus?

BP: It’s pretty simple- Show Up!  Hillel has SO many cool events happening on a daily basis.  Hillel also has many employment opportunities (applications will be opening at the beginning of March).  Chabad is another source of Jewish connection and The Melton Center for Jewish Studies is a way to become academically involved.

HC: What other clubs/associations are you affiliated with on campus?

BP: In addition to Hillel, I am also in the Buckeye Leadership Fellows Program, which is a two-year professional development cohort.  I was a Resident Advisor for three years, and now I am a member of the Meshuganotes (the Jewish a cappella group) and the Bloch Scholar for the Melton Center this year.

HC: Could you see yourself going into a profession related to any of your work outside the classroom at OSU?

BP: Yes. I see myself pursuing a career in the Jewish community.  In addition to that, I also plan to grow my photography business (www.facebook.com/briannairenephotography).

HC: Any other words of wisdom you want to share about getting involved on campus?

BP: What you do on campus starts with YOU.  Take initiative and do what you’re passionate about!  Don’t be afraid to show up to meetings, be aware of deadlines for applications, and talk to people.  There are so many things to do on this campus, so take advantage of all of the resources and opportunities around you.
