Braving the Polar Vortex in Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

With the current weather conditions hitting an all-time low, it’s hard to keep up appearances without suffering the consequences (frostbite or hypothermia, anybody?). You want to look cute, but the wind chill is hitting a breezy -20 degrees today. What do you do? Here are a few current trends that are perfect for the polar vortex:

Layers, layers, layers!

Layers are especially important when you’re going in and out of classes all day. You want to have something that you can peel off in case the heat is cranked too high in one of your classrooms, but you also want to be warm enough during your long walks in between. Try a sweater over a flannel or button up to keep your outfit from looking too chunky or sloppy.

Knee socks

Let your knee socks peep over your boots for a trendy and toasty look during the polar freeze. Try a neutral color in these to accent your brown or black boots, or grab a more bold sock for a pop of color that isn’t too overwhelming!

Fleece-lined leggings

We girls love our leggings, which means that the fleece-lined version of this trend is a staple at any boutique during the winter. Legging season just got a little bit longer! You’re welcome, boys.

Infinity scarf

Top off your look with a cozy, knit infinity scarf in a neutral color. Not only will it match everything, it will also make a huge difference when the wind chill starts to hit!
