7 Steps to Business Professional

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

Ladies, there’s something we all need to agree on. Finding the perfect business professional outfit to wear to an interview is nearly impossible. There are countless guidelines that you have to keep in mind when you’re dressing to impress, and it can be a bit overwhelming. Here are some tips to keep you looking confident and sharp when you head into your next interview!

1. Skirts and dresses must be knee-length (or at least close to it). 3-4” above the knee is normally frowned upon. I love this khaki green stretch pencil skirt from H&M because it’s simple and chic.

2. If you choose to wear a suit, make sure it’s wrinkle free and that you have the perfect blouse to wear underneath it. Try to steer clear of anything too eccentric or heavily patterned. Try something similar to this white sleeveless jersey top (H&M, $24.95), but remember that it’s never okay to wear a sleeveless top unless it’s under a jacket or blazer.

3. Make sure your outfit isn’t too tight. Keep in mind that if you’re unsure about how it fits, you probably shouldn’t wear it. If the buttons on your top start to pucker, rummage through your closet for something else!

4. Keep your makeup to a minimum. Neutral tones are best.

5. Limit the amount of jewelry you wear. You don’t want anything you’re wearing to cause a distraction. Pearl earrings go with everything!

6. Keep in mind the importance of a professional hairstyle. If you’re interested in wearing your hair pulled back, a ballerina bun is perfect.

7. Wear appropriate footwear. Heels and flats are both perfect office wear. Choose whichever one makes you feel confident and comfortable.

Now you have some tips on how to walk into your next interview feeling business professional and killer confident!
