Sasquatch Music Festival: The Actual Happiest Place on Earth

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

I’d like to say I’m a seasoned festival goer, having been to 8 different festivals all over the U.S. and one in London. That being said, if there was one festival I would tell everyone to go to before they die it would be Sasquatch.

This three-day festival held at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington is more than just a music event. It is an escape from the real world, a place to meet amazing people and listen to hours of your favorite artists. It’s one of the few festivals I’ve been to that only has camping as an option for lodging which seems daunting at first, but ultimately makes the experience that much more immersive and impactful. You get to truly rough it with all of your closest friends and simply celebrate not having to worry about anything but your own enjoyment. Camping also makes getting into the festival easier and on your terms because you can hang out at your campsite until you’re ready to go in. You also have the option of re-entry so if you decide you want to leave it doesn’t have to be the end of your day. More than that, after a long day of music you only have a short walk back to your campsite during which you can hang out and reminisce about the amazing day you’ve had. I bet you can’t say all your room at the Marriott.

Another thing that sets Sasquatch apart from other festivals is the people. Those of you who have been to your fair share of festivals know that a bad crowd can ruin the experience. The people you meet at Sasquatch are by far the nicest, most generous people you will ever meet at a music festival. If you need to find your friends, they will make a path for you. If they’re in your way, they’d be happy to move over so you can see. Everywhere you turn people are dancing around without a care in the world. There’s really no moment that lacks pure happiness when you’re surrounded by people who simply want to have a good time. It’s really refreshing to be surrounded by people like that because this kind of positive energy makes the experience that much better.

If the camping or the people aren’t convincing enough, the location will surely be the deal-breaker. The Gorge Amphitheatre is, by far, one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. It’s in the middle of the mountains and looks like a fairytale when set as the backdrop for the Sasquatch main stage. Whether you’re in the pit dancing or sitting on the hill, this view makes everything else worthwhile. Add music to this atmosphere and it feels as if you’re in a dream. You can spend the entire day just sitting on that hill with your friends and I guarantee you won’t regret one minute of it. Whether you are an avid festival goer like me or simply want to dip your toes in that world, Sasquatch is the perfect festival for you.
