Makeup-Free Ways to Solve Your Skin Situations

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

There can be so many things to keep track of in our crazy college lives. From your phone, to your wallet, to your keys, something is bound to be forgotten. So what do you do if you’ve left your makeup at home and only realize it after you’re 10 blocks to school?! Luckily, you won’t have to panic or skip class to go back and get it. Here are a few easy fixes for our most common makeup emergencies, without the actual
makeup!

Get Rid Of a Hickey

So you had some fun last night…maybe a little too much. Hey, it’s ok! Even Kim Kardashian gets a little love bite every now and again, as seen above! Now you’re in panic mode because there’s a huge raspberry-looking mark to prove that your guy is more than just a friend. As soon as you wake up, put a wet spoon in the freezer. After about 15 minutes take it out and stick it on your neck for about 10-20 minutes. This will reduce swelling and dull the color so it’s not as noticeable. After, rub the area with a
brush made of thick bristles. This will move the blood away from the location and spread it out a little better. If your hickey is still starring you in the face, throw on a scarf, thick necklace or sweatshirt that comes up high on your neck. Hey, if you can’t make it go away, you can still at least hide it from the rest of the world.

Reduce a Pimple

Doesn’t it always seem that right when we don’t have our make up with us is when we need it the most?! So you realize you have a zit…what now? You might be surprised that the solution could be sitting in your medicine cabinet, Aspirin! Aspirin has the power to create salicylic acid when applied to skin which helps clean out bacteria. It can also help exfoliate skin and reduce swelling of the pimple and surrounding area. Depending on how many zits you’re trying to treat, crush up between 1-3 Aspirin into a fine powder. Add a few drops of water into the Aspirin so that it creates a thick paste. Apply to zit with a Q-tip and let it sit until it dries on your skin (about 20 minutes). Just wash off with warm water and there ya go, simple pimple, you’re good to go!

Lighten Up Your Dark Circles

Proving you pulled an all-nighter for school should show in your grade, not your face. Dark circles often
require the work of a concealer, but you can drastically lighten your undereye bags with a different kind
of bag, a tea bag! Cold tea bags are a great way to decrease darkness and reduce puffiness. Stick a tea
bag (green or chamomile work best) in a glass of ice water for just a minute. Squeeze out a bit of the water and place underneath your eyes for about 10-20 minutes. This is a great, easy way to look fresh
and awake!

Make Your Lips Beautiful

If you’re looking a little dull, giving your lips a plump and glow could be just the thing to perk up your look! If there’s no lipstick around, don’t worry! Get a dry toothbrush with medium bristles and rub a bit of Vaseline on the very end. Gently rub in a circular motion over upper and lower lips and then repeat in a side to side motion (like when you brush your teeth). This will bring blood flow to your lips, making them look red and plump, and the Vaseline will moisturize and give them a beautiful shine! Never again will you be stuck in a situation where your kiss will be missed!
