Habits You Pick Up After Going to an All Girls High School

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

Going to an all girls high school may seem like a foreign concept to some, but let me tell you, it was an amazing experience I wouldn’t trade in for the world. If you went to an all girls school, you can definitely relate to the struggles of accostoming yourself to college life and going to school with boys again. So, here are 5 habits that you pick up after attending an all girls high school.

1. Not caring about what you look like in the morning

Going to an all girls school allowed me to sleep until the very last minute before having to go to school. With all your classmates showing up to school with unbrushed hair, unshaved legs, and a dirty uniform, it was much easier to not care what you looked like everyday. You didn’t have anyone to impress because really, all the other girls looked just as undone as you did.

2. Forgetting how to talk to boys

Seeing boys was a special occasion meant for the weekends, not an everyday occurrence. So, when an encounter with a boy would just pop out of nowhere, there would be stumbling on words and the not so accidental staring. Being in college and going to school with boys again has definitely been hard to get used to, but after about two weeks and the initial rush of testosterone, you get used to it.

3. A good work ethic

One of the greatest things about going to an all girls school is the fact that almost everyone is there to learn and succeed in school. It was an environment that forced you to work hard and concentrate on personal success while learning good work habits that would later benefit you in real life.

4. Oversharring

There is no boundaries when it comes to going to an all girls school. If you’re going on a date you tell everyone, if you’re on your period and need to complain, there will be someone to listen. Basically, everyone knows everything about everyone and it’s totally okay because that’s what sisters are for, right?

5. Sisterhood

Which leads me to the greatest thing about going to an all girls high school: sisterhood. After four years of growing up together, the girls in your class go from acquaintances to friends you will have forever. An all girls school creates an unbreakable kind of bond.
