Function of Beauty Shampoo & Conditioner Review

About a year ago I was watching one of Emma Chamberlain’s YouTube videos when she started talking about the shampoo and conditioner she’d been using. It was from the company Function of Beauty and was entirely custom made for her hair. I’m always really intrigued by new beauty products and trends and so I did a little bit of looking into it but never bought anything.

Now, over a year later, I have been seeing advertisements everywhere for Function of Beauty; women all over my Facebook proclaiming they have “mermaid hair” from using this shampoo and conditioner… so naturally I had to try it. Here’s how it went:

The first thing I did was create a “hair profile”, which gives the chemists an idea about your hair type, structure, and scalp moisture. My hair type was wavy + medium + normal. The next thing you do is pick your hair goals! This is so the chemists can create a formula that will not only suit the hair you have now, but will help develop the hair that you want to have! The goals I picked were deep condition, fix split ends, nourish roots, shine, and sooth scalp. You then get to choose the size, color, scent, and scent strength for both the shampoo and conditioner. I ordered the 8oz bottles of shampoo and conditioner because I didn’t want to buy the 16oz bottles until I knew if I liked it. Because the shampoo and conditioner is custom made, it is somewhat expensive. The bottles have your name on them, and they also come with a sheet of stickers so you can customize them even more!

When my box arrived, I immediately opened it up and smelled the shampoo and conditioner. They smelled absolutely amazing! I got the strong pear scent and it lived up to my expectations. The one critique I have about the scent is that after I washed my hair, I didn’t really feel like the scent stuck all that much. That may have to do with the ingredients being different, and more natural, than other types of shampoo and conditioner, but I did notice that the scent left in my hair wasn’t as strong as it is with my regular shampoo and conditioner. I curled my hair after my shower and I did feel like my hair was a little softer than usual, and shinier. My boyfriend commented on the shine so it was noticeable to other people. However, I didn’t feel like my hair felt substantially different, so I’m going to write the rest of this review after another ten washes to get an accurate idea of how this shampoo and conditioner affects my hair!

~10 washes later~

I can absolutely say that my hair feels softer, healthier, and stronger. I think the most noticeable part is how soft and shiny my hair is now. I remember when I was using my regular shampoo and conditioner I would run my fingers through my hair and they would get caught really easily. I have long, and thick hair so I felt like that was pretty normal. Now, however, after using the Function of Beauty products my fingers don’t get tangled whatsoever. They glide right through. That is, of course, if I haven’t done a workout or rolled the windows down in my car. But even then my hair is still less tangled and smoother!

Another great thing that I noticed while I was exploring my account was that you can go back in and change your hair goals, hair type, colors, sizes, scent, and delivery time frame at any point you want! You don’t have to place your own orders, they’re delivered automatically based on the time frame you choose. I still have quite a lot left but while I was exploring I noticed that they just put out their holiday scent “Naughty or Spice”, so I changed my scent for that and asked them to deliver that to me in two weeks so I can have it for the holidays! The whole system is so personalized and extremely convenient.

If you’re looking to try out function of beauty or just wanting a new shampoo and conditioner, I’d highly recommend this! The product is great and works like a charm, but the whole experience is just so much fun too!
