My Thoughts Going into Senior Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oneonta chapter.

Where did the time go? I feel like I just moved into my freshman dorm yesterday. I am so grateful for everything that has happened in the past 3 years. I have grown into a more confident and determined individual.

Like many, my college experience got off to a rocky start. The cause: Homesickness. I was struggling to be away from home as well as what major I wanted to pursue. I made the move of transferring back home for a year. At the time, it was the right decision. I learned so much by going to my local community college. However, I didn’t like commuting because I wasn’t getting the full college experience. Like they say, you don’t realize what you have until it’s gone. I realized that living in the dorms allowed me to be social, and I needed that. I realized that what I was studying was right for me but needed that confirmation before being completely confident.

My college experience after transferring back to Oneonta has been one I will always be grateful for. I was finally able to put myself out there and get involved on campus. This changed my college life. I made new friends and discovered new opportunities just by stepping out of my comfort zone and immersing myself into campus life. I have been able to complete internships and unique opportunities that have helped tremendously in figuring out my career plans. Most importantly, I have found a home here. The friends I have made are friends I will have for life. I hope they know how much they mean to me. I would not be as happy or motivated if it wasn’t for them. They have honestly saved my college experience, and I know they will be my bridesmaids someday!

I am sad that my time at Oneonta is dwindling, mostly because of how much I have come to enjoy myself here every day. I am so grateful for the opportunity that allowed me to come back 2 years ago. I knew from my first tour that there was something special about SUNY Oneonta. No other campus compares to the way I feel at home and part of a community here. I am looking forward to enjoying my senior year and making the most of it!
