If your favorite restaurant was 30 minutes away, but no other food could compare to it…would it be worth the drive?
For Misa Chien and Jennifer Green the answer is yes; for a Vietnamese sandwich, banh mi, meat, cilantro, cucumbers, all on a baguette.
These UCLA graduates were tired of making the commute so they started a business that is growing faster than they would have imagined.
Nom, nom, nom. Trusted source, Urban Dictionary, describes it as the sound someone makes while eating an enjoyable meal. Can a ‘nom’ really become much more than that?Meet the creators of the Nom Nom Truck. This fast food truck took to the streets of Los Angeles providing Vietnamese favorites to the public. This “meals on wheels” venture includes popular items among locals such as the lemongrass chicken or tofu taco.
Where did the idea for this portable cuisine come from? As told to Bay Area Bites, “It started in 2009 when we had a lot of Kogi BBQ trucks around the UCLA campus and their popularity grew out of nowhere,” says Jennifer. “I made a lot of Vietnamese food for my friends on a regular basis and I realized the lack of Vietnameserestaurants in the West LA area. Then it clicked.”
Can it really be that simple? To have an idea and then pursue it with no idea if it will be successful…maybe that’s what sets apart having what it takes to run a business. In 2010, there were plans to expand to a second Nom Nom Truck which became a reality as the business expanded to San Francisco.
As far as plans to keep growing this business? In an interview with The Orange County Register regarding their second place finish in “The Great Food Truck Race,” Green said, “I just really enjoy seeing this sort of food truck revolution, in a sense. If we’re part of that revolution, I am totally for that, and I wouldn’t mind expanding to other cities.”
It is not true that people stop pursuing dreams because they grow old, they grow old because they stop pursuing dreams.”-Gabriel Garcia
