Skin Care Guru on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OK State chapter.

I sat down and interviewed Sephora’s own skincare expert and color consultant Lacey Lawmaster. Not only is Lacey an employee of Sephora, but she is a senior at OSU majoring in PR! Lets get right to it.

How long have you been a skin care specialist?
Three years

What is the best part of your job?
Helping others feel pretty. I get to help people fix their insecurities in a small way. Making others feel good about themselves ultimately makes me feel good.

What are the basic steps for maintaining healthy skin that you would recommend for women on a daily basis?
1.     Cleanse
2.     Tone
3.     Exfoliate
4.     Moisturize
5.     Protect: Use an SPF. It protects your skin against the environmental agents and the sun.

Do any of these products change in the winter?
During the winter add an eye and night cream, and a heavier moisturizer. I recommend Philosophy’s miracle worker eye and night cream. Korre’s moisturizer or Ole Henriksen moisturizer.

*These products can be found at Sephora

How often should you moisturize in the winter?
It stays the same. A lightweight tint moisturizer can be used. But, a thicker form of moisturizer is what changes.

What if someone’s skin is already oily and they feel like they don’t need a moisturizer?
I would recommend that they use one. If they don’t, their face will produce more oils.

Do you have any favorite products?
-Smash box hydrating primer
-A product line by the name of BLISS. All the big hotels have it. Its products doesn’t take the nutrients out of your skin, but it adds it back in.
-Olay cleansing pads from Wal-Mart
-Clarisonic active brushes: It takes 15% more makeup off with vibrations on the skin. It can be used with any cleanser and it’s similar to the microdermabrasion.

What is the overall importance of skin care?
Your skin is your protection layer. If you don’t take care of it, it can look worse and worse. You age quicker.
