The love or hate day

The survey says, love! When I surveyed people of Stillwater to find what they thought of this day of romance, I found that the majority, single or otherwise, love it.

Although it is supposed to be a day to show your love to everyone you appreciate, we seem to have turned it into a “couple’s day.” However, many of the singles that took my survey had some interesting comments about why they hated Valentine’s Day.

“It literally makes me feel less loved and more alone” said one anonymous person. “It’s all about the commercialism” said another. And

the most interesting comment I got was “Wallowing in self-pity and cuddling with my two favorite guys, Ben and Jerry”.

Well, I have a plan to satisfy them all, couples and singles alike. Stillwater is a very small college town with not a ton of options when it comes to entertainment. So, I have come up with some creative and fun ways for couples and singles in Stillwater to have some fun this Valentine’s Day.

  1. Themed Bar Hop:

For all of the 21 year olds out there this is a great way to get out there! Get your girls out and pick a theme. It can be cupids, the queen of hearts, or just sexy in red just take a few minutes and browse Pinterest for some other ideas. Dress up and hit the town. Bonding with the girls that make your college experience, an experience, will only add to the many memories you will need to look back on to survive the work place.

  1. Wine and Dine:

Again, for the entire lovely women on campus that are of age if the bar scene just isn’t for you go to Zannotti’s for their Happy Hour Week which is from 5-7

p.m. this whole week. I know I love to gossip and hang out over a bottle of red wine, but this can also be a great couple’s night or at least

a stop to start or end the night. (Photo Courtesy of Zonottiswinebar.com)

  1. Movie Date:

This idea can go either way for the couples what is showing at our local movie theater for the typical love see winter’s Tale with the movie

hunk Colin Farrell. And if the day of love has way too much love in the air for you go see the other movies that are making the box office, like the comedy That Awkward moment or the horror of Devils Due. And for all of us that are low on the funds for a full date night grab some movies at Family Video, RedBox, Hastings, or even watch something new on Netflix or Hulu.

  1. SUAB Dinner and a Movie:

Couples that have no plans, the Student Union Activities Board is here to help with you plans for Valentine’s Day! They are hosting a dinner and a movie in the Starlight Terrace this Friday. They will be having a very nice dinner of 2 entrées, desserts, and drink options and the “About Time” Movie. Tickets are still available in 058 Student Union and they are only $10/couple! Now we have options as singles and plans for those of us that haven’t quite figured out what we are going to do. So take on Stillwater this Valentine’s Day and make it fun, whether you want something romantic or just a day to celebrate the love in your life not of your life.
