Introducing OStateTV

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OK State chapter.

OSU launched OstateTV Sept. 25 as an outlet for students, and alumni to share and watch student-made videos online.

OStateTV offers a wide variety of videos, showcasing everything from student life videos to sports stories. It also has live feeds of events such as the upcoming homecoming parade.

All videos featured on the site are shot, edited, and student produced.

“OStateTV gives broadcast students a chance to practice what we’re learning in the classroom,” Chelsea Judge, OStateTV reporter says. “It gives OSU another news outlet and allows students to see what’s going on around campus.”

Any student can get involved with OStateTV by logging on to www.ostate.tv and creating an account. After an account is created, students can upload videos to go in the student life section of the site.

“We want students to get involved,” Andy Wallace, OStateTV coordinator says. “OStateTV was created so that students could get involved, and know about all of the great things happening on campus.”

Reporters and administrators focus on incorporating a wide selection of stories, so that all viewers can find something that interest them.

“We try to cover everything from homecoming to events happening on campus,” Colton Scott, OStateTV reporter says. “I recently did a video over healthy dining Services. There’s something to interest everyone.”

Wallace says although he and students did not get involved until early June, many hardworking communications faculty members began working on setting up the OStateTV platform long before.

“I was brought in because I know television well and I know how to work with students,” Wallace says. “I was just handed the baton by a group of great staff members that have been working on this project for a long time.”

If students have an event coming up and know how to edit video, they can even upload a video on the site. No class or formal training is necessary to get involved in OSU’s newest news outlet.

“We created OStateTV to tell the story of OSU and Stillwater,” Wallace says “This is a great place and we want everyone to know about it. It shouldn’t be kept a secret.”
