5 things you may or may not know about the Tulsa State Fair

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OK State chapter.

Every year since I was 8 my family and I have gone to the Tulsa State Fair. The fair was almost like a holiday for my brother and I. The excitement every time I walked onto the midway and saw the flashy lights on rides and the smell o all the food around me was unreal. When I was younger my focus remained on the midway rides and carnival  games, but as I have gotten older I have realized that there is more to a fair than just the rides and food.

So, here are 5 fun facts you may or may not know about the Tulsa State fair!

1.       The Tulsa State Fair has an attendance of over 1 million people each year.

2.       The Tulsa State fair brings in 650 vendors, which are spread out throughout the fairgrounds. Whether you are looking to buy a new vehicle, Jacuzzi, or some foreign foods, the Tulsa State Fair has a plethora of options for fairgoers to browse through.

3.       There are free concerts by well-known artists of every music genre on every night of the fair. This year, the Tulsa State Fair had a hot line up with artists like Dustin Lynch, Parmalee, Andy Grammer and Sean Kingston. These concerts are free, but you are able to purchase VIP tickets for a seat right in front of the stage. Artists of the past include Eli Young Band, Debbie Ryan, Hot Chelle Rae, and many more!

4.       There is a building that specifically hosts vendors that are selling things that are made in Oklahoma. The building is ironically named the “Made in Oklahoma Building” and lets exhibitors and vendors set up their merchandise and products that are home grown or homemade. This building is the best to get your spices and locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables. There are also booths that sell homemade attire and accessories. My favorite exhibit in this building would be the Nitro Ice Cream booth that sells homemade ice cream frozen with nitrogen. It has a smooth, rich taste and you can add toppings!

5.       The fair hosts many different entertainment attractions. My favorite fair entertainment is the “All-Star Dog Stunt Show,” which has been at the fair for eleven years. Other entertainment this year included “The Great Cat Experience” (which showcased 5 different tigers and their tricks) and The Pirate show for kids which showcased some high diving pirates and incorporated some comedy into their show.

If you are not the type of person who loves rides, do not fear because there is so much for you to do and I would encourage everyone to experience the fair at least once!
