My Magical Experience at the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

I have always been a huge fan of art, especially Van Gogh. Him and Monet are at the top of some of my favorite artists, along with Keith Haring and John Rambola. It was an absolute dream that I was able to go to the Immersive exhibit that I had been wanting to go to for years! It was sort of like a dream come true for me, it was more amazing than I could have ever imagined!

At this experience, you first walk in and check in. You can either walk around the gift shop, looking at art installments, or go straight into the experience. There is no noise outside of the experience room which is very impressive. As soon as you walk in through black curtains, loud music is playing and the lights are outstanding. People can sit practically anywhere, there are benches for some to sit on. The person right outside of the experience tells you to watch it multiple times from many angles because you can see something different every time. I felt like I was living in Van Goghs mind, like all of the the paintings where something I was living in. I felt closer to him as an artist, I felt like I knew him, his successes, his sorrows.

When you are done viewing, you can go out the doors into the gift shop. Surprisingly, I quite enjoyed the gift shop, because they had some really unique merchandise. I personally got a poster of the sunflowers and a few other things. The prices were reasonable and it gave me ideas of things I want to purchase in the future. You can walk around and look at the local featured artists work, which is awesome. It is a wonderful way to get people in the know of who is creating what at this time. You can have multiple photo ops, like in front of the Cleveland sign that has starry night behind it, in a paint can that also has starry night in it, by the Van Gogh sign, or by a giant size paint box with paint tubes.

Overall, I really enjoyed this entire experience. It felt like time stopped inside of the experience, I could have spent all day in there. The venue was easy to find and beautifully decorated. My family and I talked about how we couldn’t help but think of what Van Gogh would’ve felt like in this. Would he have of loved it and felt like all of his hard work was worth it? Would he have thought it was a marketing sham? I personally enjoyed the experience and I would suggest that any one whether they are a Van Gogh enthusiast or not.
