How to Survive Weeks 13-15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

The passing of Thanksgiving means one thing to us Bobcats—a nice, long, relaxing
winter break. Oh wait, we are on semesters now. We actually have to come back to
Athens for three weeks after Thanksgiving?! Say it isn’t so!

Unfortunately, it is time for us to face the realization that we must endure a few more
weeks of classes before we are able to head home for the holidays. If you are like us
here at Her Campus, you know that the next few weeks will undoubtedly drag on and
prove to be some of longest weeks of our college careers. Perhaps we have a flare for
the dramatics when it comes to this switch to semesters, but nonetheless, we are here
to provide you with a few helpful tips to survive the weeks yet to come.

Keep Yourself Busy
Regardless of how you are spending your free time, the easiest way to cope with the
extra weeks of classes is to keep your mind occupied. Try filling up your afternoons by
hanging out with friends. Casual coffee dates or necessary holiday shopping trips are a
great way to pass the time while having fun with friends who you may not see for a few
weeks once winter break finally arrives. Picking up extra shifts at work is also an easy
way to pass the time while allowing you to earn the extra spending cash you will need
for those holiday shopping trips. Although week 11 has come and gone, however, finals
are still lurking right around the corner. If you are looking for a worthwhile way to pass
the time, you could always get a head start on studying for finals and fine-tuning essays
and projects.

Break a Sweat
To quote the fabulous Elle Woods, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins
make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands.” Although we are not
defending a fitness guru on trial for murder, the logic still applies to us brooding college
students. A few hours at the gym each week will fill up your free time, help shred the
extra pounds you may have gained thanks to an over abundance of carb-loaded holiday
side dishes, and of course, make you happy enough to forget that you aren’t spending
your days bumming around your hometown.

‘Tis the Season
This year, students get to experience a holiday season like no other right here on the
brick streets of Athens. Thanks to the semesters switch, students will be in town for the
festivities that take place during the holidays. This may just be the silver lining of these
extra weeks that we have been waiting for. The holiday season officially began here in
Athens on Wednesday with the annual tree lighting ceremony. Other activities include
train rides, visits from Santa himself, caroling and cookie decorating. Take these next

few weeks to enjoy the various events happening around town in celebration of the
most wonderful time of the year.

Watch This Video
When all else fails and you still find that you are crying yourself to sleep at night, just
watch this video of cats. How could cats doing funny things not make your day a little
better?
