10 Things I Learned Outside Of Class This Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

Hopefully, we all learned throughout our classes this semester, but here are 10 things that I learned outside of class:

Breakups REALLY suck

We all knew this was true, but WOW when you go through a breakup on the second day of the semester AND then find out they lied about everything. OUCH, it hurts. I really learned how much a breakup sucks. This may have also contributed to many of the things in this list of what I learned this semester outside of class.

You should ask for support

Reaching out to friends, family and even coworkers for support can help you get through anything you might be going through. Having a support system gives you a shoulder to cry on, someone to vent to, and a group to have fun with to get your mind off things.

Prioritizing yourself is okay

Taking a step out of reality to prioritize yourself is okay. Going to bed early or just getting a coffee instead of working to make others happy is necessary and okay.

Don’t waste your time

Your time is precious. Don’t waste it on those who don’t deserve it.

it’s better to ask questions

Rather than assume, it’s better to ask questions. This not only aligns with asking questions in class, but also asking those weird work questions, or student org questions that you’re unsure of.

You have nothing to lose when reaching out

Sending the first message can be scary, but what do you have to lose? The worst outcome is someone saying no, or that they aren’t interested. You never know who you might end up talking to, so send that message!

Self-care is everything

So much can be considered self-care, and it is so important not only during a time of healing but during any time. Find the self-care that works for you. This can be treating yourself to ice cream, using a facemask, or staying in bed a little later on the weekend.

Going to the gym can be great

This might sound like a shocker from me, but going to the gym can be really great. Doing cardio, lifting some weights, or taking one of the many group fitness classes offered such as yoga can make you feel so good about yourself. Working out can relieve your stress and releases endorphins that can make you feel positive.

Cutting toxicity out of your life is good

Nobody likes cutting people out of their life, but sometimes it is necessary in order to live a better life. Remember earlier when I said it’s okay to prioritize yourself? It’s time to prioritize yourself and take any toxic people out of your life.

You can get through anything

You will be challenged not only by class but by work, friends, organizations and outside forces. But you are much stronger than you like to believe. I promise that you, just like myself, can get through anything.
