Podcasts are an excellent way to get some entertainment while on the go, but with hundreds upon hundreds to choose from, it can be hard to decide which ones to listen to. Don’t stress – we have rounded up five of the best podcasts of October (in no particular order). Whether you’re into true-crime, looking for laughs, or want to learn something new, we’ve got you covered.

1. Hysteria

If you’ve listened to the insanely popular podcast Pod Save America, then you’ll love Hysteria. In this podcast, political commentator and comedy writer, Erin Ryan, hosts the show while teaming up with women across the United States to discuss news, politics, and the cultural framework that affects women’s lives. This is the go-to podcast to help one feel inspired and empowered by a group of brilliant and opinionated women who are not afraid to talk candidly about the obstacles facing women today.

2. Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations

If you’re ever feeling like you need a little bit of Oprah wisdom in your life, Oprah’s Supersoul Conversations is the perfect podcast for you. The podcast features a selection of Oprah’s favorite interviews with everyone from best-selling authors and comedians to spiritual leaders and health and wellness experts. The best part about it is that all of the interviews are curated by Oprah herself, so you know you’re getting only the best and brightest words of wisdom to feel enlightened throughout your day.

3. The Mental Illness Happy Hour

Mental illness is something we’re all aware of, but we don’t talk openly about it nearly enough. Enter The Mental Illness Happy Hour, a weekly podcast hosted by Paul Gilmartin that features interviews from comedians, artists, friends, and health professionals discussing mental illness, trauma, addiction, and negative thinking. Each episode works to normalize the stigma around mental illness and provides a safe space to feel hope that things will get better and that you’re not alone in whatever you might be feeling or coping with.

4. Queer as Fiction

If you are a member of the LGBTQIA community or just like fanfiction, then this podcast is for you. Hosted by Amanda Holland, Kirsten King, and Ashly Perez (as seen on the popular Youtube channel Girl Ship TV),  the podcast Queer as Fiction explores the world of the fandom as the three hilarious women write original fanfiction about various character pairings across media from Harry Potter to Ocean’s 8 using audience suggestions. They also tackle a variety of issues that affect people across the sexuality and gender spectrum.

5. My Favorite Murder

Looking for the perfect true-crime podcast to get you into that spooky Halloween mood? My Favorite Murder, hosted by lifelong true-crime fans Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark, serves dark humor and even darker tales of crime and murder through history, but also from friends and fans. It is the perfect light-hearted, true-murder show that will take you through the analysis of some of the grittiest crime stories with wit and charm, making the podcast slightly chilling but always hilarious and fun to listen to.

We hope this guide inspires you to download a new podcast this October. Happy listening!
