“I Slipped on a Grape Tomato” Christmas Carols with Jimmy and Reese

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

This past Tuesday, Reese Witherspoon joined Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show along with seven-time New York Times bestselling author, David Sedaris, and a performance by upcoming hip– hop phenomenon Rae Sremmurd. To kick off the holiday spirit, Jimmy and Reese gave their own captivating rendition on some classic Christmas carols in a lively game of “Random Phrase Carols”.

Accompanied by The Tonight Show band The Roots, Fallon and Witherspoon revamped Christmas lyrics to somewhat repulsive, but hilarious, lyrics, such as “Jingle Bells” now to be known as “Small old man named Tom.” The real excitement in this, though, is hearing Reese Witherspoon sing, and completely blank on “Silent Night”, or rather, “Slimy Toad, Bumpy Toad”.

Rewind to the opening of the show, Fallon doubles the music as he and NBC newscaster, Brian Williams, “slow jam” Obama’s executive action on immigration policy. Whether or not you agree with his decision, you can’t help but literally LOL at Fallon and William’s sensual release of this political action. Though it’s laced with sexual overtones, Fallon means no disrespect to President Obama, nor the toads or any old men named Tom.
