Top 10 Scarily Good Costumes at the Bodega

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

In girl world, Halloween is the one night a year you can dress as whatever you want, and no one can say anything about it… unless you are ranking the best costumes in Nottingham this Halloween.

10. Mario and Princess Peach

After the Mario movies were released this year, it was a requirement that there were some Mario and Peach couples in the crowd. Distinguishable through Mario’s iconic red hat and Peaches’ pink dress, there was at least one princess in Bodega this Halloween. Bonus points if Bowser was involved in this trio. Everyone needs someone to sing Peaches to them every once in a while.

9. Alvin and the Chipmunks

The perfect trio costume for 2023. We all know and love Alvin, Simon and Theodore; why not dress up as them and perform an iconic number? Wearing red, blue, and green and a cardboard cutout of their initials, no one mistook this trio for anything but fabulous.

8. Tank Girl

This costume’s creativity and excellent execution made it a compulsory part of the top 10. While this was a niche choice, the Tank Girl outfit from the comic book series and 1995 movie ‘Tank Girl’ was done brilliantly through the use of khaki clothes, an army helmet and face paint.

7. Daphne and Velma

While I have seen plenty of Daphne and Fred duos in recent years, I am glad we finally saw the real love birds together this year! Everyone needs a Daphne to their Velma <3 With Velma in a satin orange halter neck, red denim mini-skirt and orange knee highs, and Daphne’s gorgeous purple mini-dress and green bandana, it was impossible not to solve the mystery of their costume.

6. Russell from the movie ‘Up’

Some laughed, some cried, but we all agreed, that Russell and Carl gave a great costume this year. Bonus points to Russell for handing out Boy Scout ‘badges’ to everyone for their bravery in going out on a Tuesday.

5. Shrek and Fiona

Get out of my swamp… and into Bodega! The dedication required to dress as Shrek and Fiona is serious. Not only did this duo have green skin, but they even managed to make their hair into two ogre ears through tonnes of hairspray and green (skin-friendly) paint! But it did leave me wondering…. who is looking after donkey?

4. Tweedledee and Tweedledum

Best friends? Twins? What better way to let everyone know through this iconic Alice in Wonderland duo? No one rocks stripes and bald caps better than these two.

3. Barbie

Despite everyone’s love for the Barbie movie this summer, I only saw two Barbie costumes this year! Although I was hoping for a room filled with cowgirl Barbies, the two I saw were Kenough in their pink flares, pink waistcoats and cowgirl hats.

2. Sexy Patrick Starr

Iconic. I don’t think there is much else to say. Wearing a pink beaded bikini top, Patrick Starr-style shorts and fishnets, this costume definitely earned second place in this year’s top 10 Halloween costumes.

  1. Pearl and Maxxine

While these costumes look amazing at the best of times, with everyone recognising the blonde eyebrows, dungarees, and iconic red outfit, done as a duo this costume took it to the next level! Spoiling us with an outfit from the prequel Pearl, and the original movie X, Pearl and Maxine have my heart in first place! The whole world did know their names this Halloween.
