How to Maintain That Summer Glow

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

As the weather gets gloomier and the workload starts to pile up, you probably can’t help but look back longingly on those summer selfies where you had more free time and amazing glowing skin. Well HC Nottingham is here to give you some tips on how you can get rid of that dullness and achieve that summer glow as we get deeper into autumn.

Water

Although there haven’t been many scientific studies on the effect water has on the skin, it’s clear that a good water intake is a common factor with those flaunting a flawless complexion. Water keeps your body and skin hydrated; decreasing the dryness which is what often causes our faces to look dull. You should aim to drink around 2 litres a day, making sure to pace yourself so that your body receives the full benefit of the water. If you find yourself struggling to drink just plain water, try adding some fresh fruit to add a bit of flavour.

Exercise

If like me you’re one of those people who struggle to find time to exercise regularly or have bought gym membership simply to say you’re a gym member, exercising to improve your skin may seem like a bit of a stretch. However, with the growth of apps and technology over the years, many companies have created the solution to this problem. Apps such as 7 Minute Workout give you a combination of exercises that work out your entire body but can be done in just 7 minutes! Exercise gets you going and allows for blood to be pumped round your body ensuring that your skin looks healthy.

Diet

No matter how much you exercise and increase your water intake, it won’t mean much if your diet isn’t on point. What you put into your body has an effect on how you look, so if you’re having McDonalds a bit too often, that’ll probably explain those reoccurring spots on your chin. Now, I’m not saying to have great skin you need to join the latest fad and cut out carbs completely from your diet but just small things like incorporating more vegetables into your meals and not binge eating a bag of Maltsters all by yourself will make such a difference.

Sleep

As we get to that time of the year where deadlines start to approach, it’s easy to get into the habit of staying up late at night to get an essay finished. This is bad news for our skin as we don’t allow our body enough time to regenerate and end up with massive eye bags. Ensuring that you get a good night’s rest helps reduce the chance of you looking tired and instead, full of energy.

Strobing

Over the summer, make up lovers said bye-bye to contouring and hello to strobing. This new makeup technique is a great quick fix to achieving that summer glow while you wait for the other tips to take root. Strobing is essentially you highlighting – a little more than usual- the areas where light would naturally hit your face, giving you a dewy look.
