Alumni Catch-Up: Jenine Tudtud

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

As the new academic year begins at HCN, we caught up with one of last year’s Campus Correspondents, Jenine Tudtud, to see what she’s been up to since graduating.

How did you get involved with Her Campus and why?

I wanted to get some experience in journalism when I got to uni. The advert for Her Campus Nottingham was in my halls freshers group and it sounded like such a fun thing to do and a great way to meet new people whilst getting that experience.

The online blog itself was helpful in transitioning from secondary school to uni, full of advice on student life specifically for Nottingham students which made it even better!

What was your role with the publication?

I started out as a Campus Celeb (now profile) blogger. That was a really great role! I really enjoyed talking to so many different people and finding out about their lives. It definitely helped me get confidence!

I then became a study abroad blogger in my third year. That was amazing and it forced me to really enjoy studying abroad because I felt like I had to experience different things to write about. I also felt like I still had a little bit of home with me!

In my final year, I became one of our Campus Correspondents. This was by far my favourite role! I did so many things whilst in this role: liaising with HC in Boston, recruiting interns, taking care of finance, planning events, publishing and editing articles – the list is literally endless! It allowed me to work with everyone on the team as well, and it was nice to play an integral part in the growth of HCN.

What were some of the highlights of your time with HCN?

I’d honestly say I enjoyed every part of HC! But if I had to pick one then I would say I loved the network it created, not only from working but also in our socials!

The annual fashion show is a highlight every year and it’s always great to collaborate with Fashion Society and Coppafeel doing it too. As CC, you even get connections all over the world!

I would also say that it was always a highlight when I’d get an email about our chapter’s achievements. Maintaining our pink level status, getting into the top 16 in March Madness Traffic out of 300+ chapters, and knowing our articles would sometimes be in the top 10 articles out of all those chapters made me proud to be part of such an amazing organisation of (mostly) amazing women.

How has your role helped you since graduating?

The skills you get are invaluable! The roles available are so diverse and the skills are transferable that I’m able to talk about them for almost any role. Also, like I said, you have this network by the end of it!

So many of our alumnus post on our staff groups about different positions and internships you can get involved with so you’re never short of opportunities!

What are you up to now?

I’ve taken a break this summer and I’ve just finished travelling, but I intend to look for jobs in the PR and Communications sector now I’m back!

Do you have any advice for UoN students right now?

I’d say just get involved and don’t be afraid to try something new! If it doesn’t work out then that’s fine – it’s not the end of the world! Always remember that finding out what isn’t for you is just as important as finding out what is.

I'm a third year English student at University of Nottingham and when I'm not working or writing, I'm probably watching a Disney movie or listening to one of their soundtracks! I'm a Campus Correspondent for HC Nottingham and generally write about food, travel, and the food I've experienced on my travels!
