7 Movies For Those Who Can’t Wait For Christmas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

There is an epidemic sweeping the nation at this very moment! It’s an illness that needs to be dealt with immediately and swiftly if the patient is to recover before the New Year. It is a plague which appears on the 1st of November targeting a select group of people, it has clear and obvious symptoms that can be only be cured through a select course of treatment: the illness is called COD (Christmas Obsession Disorder). Although this disorder cannot fully be cured until the 25th December, because these symptoms show so early before this date, this article will provide family members, roommates or significant others of the ill with an activity that will get rid of incessant questions such as: when can we start playing Christmas songs? Shall we put the Christmas tree up now? And what should I buy my dog this year??? All you need to do is sit them down in front of a television with these 7 movies and symptoms will subside just in time for you to get a little rest from the early-festivities. Sit back and enjoy,

  1. Love Actually

No one can argue that Love Actually should be excluded from a Christmas movie list, to do so would be like spitting in Santa’s face ! This movie has everything to get you in the holiday spirit: an original Christmas song, falling in love surrounded by mounds of snow, and obviously…Colin Firth. By starting your November off with this classic, your COD symptoms will start vanishing almost instantly.

2. Elf

This film has produced some of the most iconic lines from any Christmas movie, and is still rated number one for a good proportion of the human population. If you’re in the need to get festive, make sure to snuggle up in a warm blanket with a cup of hot chocolate and listen to relaxing voice of Will Ferrell for a couple of hours.

3. A Nightmare Before Christmas

It may seem strange to have a predominantly dark and dismal film filled with skeletons and ghouls on a Christmas list…but I am in the right here. Tim Burton’s classic symbolises the happiness and cheerfulness that everyone gets in the lead up to Christmas, plus you’ll get pretty attached to the characters despite the fact that none of them a real.

4. The Holiday

Yes there is another Rom-com on this Christmas list, but you can’t deny that The Holiday is surprisingly festive. Particularly the image of Kate’s cosy little cottage, it’s the epitome of Christmas and led many people to research it to see if it was for sale !

5. The Muppets Christmas Carol

I understand that we all may be a little old for the Muppets…But I completely disagree with that argument because no one is too old to watch anything! The Muppets take on A Christmas Carol puts a smile on everyone’s faces through it’s hilarious jokes and amazing ability to make puppets festive and Christmassy.

6. Home Alone

It’s strange to think that a movie about a kid being left behind by his family at Christmas is such a festive film filled with laughter and cheer as well as the occasional scary moments. But this film does exactly that. Obviously I don’t suggest abandoning anyone on Christmas, but apparently if you do they’re still going to have an amazing time! The power of Christmas knows no boundaries!

7.  It’s A Wonderful Life

You can’t have a Christmas movie list without this classic. A wonderful life is actually pretty depressing considering that he wants to commit suicide at the end, but all is well as he decides not to when his life returns back to him. Nevertheless, this movies ending will fill all of your Christmas needs and will satisfy your festive craving long enough for that magical day to finally arrive.

I can only hope that this list will help with your COD. If not then Christmas songs can always be substituted to deal with other symptoms…now just wait until you have to deal with ECB (End of Christmas Blues).

My name is Leah Hemmings and I've just returned from a year abroad in America and I'm about to start my final year in History and American Studies at the University of Nottingham. Even though I am in my final year, this is my first time working with Her Campus and I'm really looking forward to what is in store for me. As you can tell from my job title I mainly enjoy all things entertainment and always make sure to watch a new film everyday (primarily because I get to veg out while watching them). At the same time I make sure to keep updated on anything new coming out in case its really juicy and worth a watch. Having the opportunity to write about something I love and enjoy and being able to share it with other entertainment lovers gets me excited about what I'm writing even more. Alongside watching films I love a good read and obviously writing as well as a nice nap here and there. I look forward to finishing my year at Nottingham with Her Campus and can't wait to share some of my blog pieces with everyone.
