Meet this week’s Campus Cutie, Minnesota native Erin Hanahoe! This fun-loving Ryan Hall resident is one of the lovely ladies of Notre Dame, and she couldn’t be more excited about football season and starting another year on campus.

Year: Junior

Major: Biology

Dorm: Ryan Hall

Hometown: Eden Prairie, MN

Nickname: Ehoe

Favorite TV show: It’s a tie between Parks and Rec and Gossip Girl. I absolutely love every single person who works in the parks department of Pawnee, Indiana. But I also love shows with tons of drama, which is why I could spend days watching Law & Order: SVU marathons.

Favorite junk food: I LOVE cheesecake and warm chocolate chip cookies.

Favorite country singer: Kenny Chesney

Favorite restaurant in South Bend: Rocco’s Pizza – my favorite pizza there is sausage and pepperoni. If you’ve never been to Rocco’s, you haven’t lived and you need to go there the

minute you’re back on campus.

Favorite spot on campus: Depends on the season. In the fall, it’s the Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday afternoons. In the winter, it’s probably my bed. In the spring (when it’s warm enough) it’s anywhere on campus I can lay outside in my hammock.

Dream celebrity guy: John Krasinski (a.k.a Jim from The Office)

Favorite Rom-Com: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

Must-have song on your party playlist? Crazy in Love by Beyonce. Just Dance 3 has awesome dance moves to this song, 10/10 would recommend learning them.

What activities are you involved in at ND?

On campus, I do undergraduate research with a biology professor, and I participate in Relay for Life, the Uplift biology club, and Habitat for Humanity. I also have an Eno and love just lying in my hammock around campus.

What’s your favorite memory from sophomore year?

My friends and I went to Destin, Florida for spring break, and even though we all got super sunburned on the first day, we bounced back and still had so much fun.

Any advice for incoming freshmen?

I would say try to get to know upperclassmen in your dorm because they’ve already gone through everything you’re about to experience. They can be great people to talk to about anything from classes and professors to social life and activities/extra curriculars on campus.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

Studying abroad in Ireland in the spring and then hopefully getting to travel around Europe. I also can’t wait for football season!

What’s your favorite part about living in Ryan?

Father Joe (our Priest in Residence). He is the greatest person I’ve ever met. He always makes every day brighter and I love baking cookies with him and other Ryan girls every Tuesday night!

Tell us about your roommate for this year:

My roommate is one of my best friends, Shawn Hall. She is way less awkward and way more social than I am. She’s from Fairport, New York, which you would know after spending just a few days with her because she often wears t-shirts and sweatshirts from her high school sports to remind you she was a varsity athlete at Fairport High School.

Shawn is very smart and is one of the kindest people I know. She is obsessed with her dog and will get mad if I don’t tell her that her dog is cute whenever she shows me pictures.

On campus we do almost everything together. Last spring we actually perfected the art of two people riding one bike – one person (me) sits on the seat wearing both of our backpacks and the other person (Shawn) stands up and pedals. I would say as a pair that’s probably been our greatest accomplishment over these past 2 years.

Overall, I love my roommate and can always count on her to help me procrastinate studying for tests by watching Netflix or videos of cute, tiny animals on Youtube.

Random fact about yourself that few people know?

I was born with a clubfoot and got surgery to correct it when I was nine months old. Now I have a scar that goes almost all the way around my right foot.

Future hopes/dreams/goals?

I would be lying if I said I knew exactly what I want to do when I graduate, but I think that I want to work in healthcare at the international level. Working with an organization like Partners in Health would be amazing, or working for some place like the CDC would also be incredible.

Who is your role model?

My parents. I look up to them way more than they know. They’ve both worked so hard their whole lives to give my siblings and me everything we have and to get us to where we are today. My mom is one of the most selfless and generous people I know.

Thanks Erin!
