For those avid Scandal fans out there, you might only know Defiance, Ohio as the place where the presidential election was rigged—but it is home to so much more. Samantha Murray, a wildcat of Hotel Ryan, is a Campus Cutie whose spirit matches her hometown’s spunky name. This psychology major’s schemas are full of song lyrics (mostly Disney) which she will spontaneously delight you with mid-conversation and the only thing more golden than her heart is her sassy blonde hair. But don’t be fooled by her genuine kindness, Sam is a tough member of the Fighting Irish Track & Field team who has already made a national debut as a freshman.

What Disney Character is most like you?
I would probably have to say Anna from Frozen, not just because she’s the most adorable Disney princess. I am not nearly as courageous as she is, but I am also a hopeless romantic, and it admittedly gets me into trouble more often than it should.
What do you think is the most underrated song/artist/genre?
While we’re on Disney, I have to mention Phil Collins. The movie Tarzan would just not be the same without all of his music, like the songs “You’ll Be In My Heart” and “Son of Man,” to name a couple. I’m also a huge fan of Contemporary Christian music. I know some people think it’s just a bunch of boring God music, but honestly, it’s all about pushing through the hard times in life and enjoying the little things. It’s made to make you smile and love living! I highly recommend Kari Jobe!

Everybody in the Club Getting Fit-sy
How did you enjoy your experience in your first collegiate track season and are you excited for the upcoming outdoor season?
I really loved competing in my first collegiate track season. I’ve never felt so invested in running, and I’m coming to find that being a runner is part of my nature. I’m really looking forward to the outdoor season, it should be a lot of fun.
What did it feel like to return to Defiance this January to be honored for your 800m State Championship title in front of your high school and hometown?
I have always really loved Defiance. Growing up there has been a huge blessing, and the whole community has been so supportive throughout my running career. It was really awesome to see everyone together that day. Plus, I got to share the moment with my ND teammates who came home with me! It was unforgettable.

Okay, real talk. What is your dream date?
April 25th. It’s not too hot, it’s not too cold. All you need is a light jacket.
What do you look for in a guy?
Chest muscles. Oh! And being ticklish. I’ve heard ticklish guys are keepers. But on a serious note, I think the most attractive guy is someone who questions the world. I want someone who can argue with me, not to prove himself right, but to find common ground.
