Campus Cutie Ryan Baer ’15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

After being called out last week by Campus Cutie Christian Vavuris, HCND thought it was only fair we heard from the man himself, Ryan Baer! Mothers love him, and HCND knows there is so much more to this handsome face. See what Ryan has to say about life, love, and the “Baer Necessities.”

Best friends and past and present Campus Cuties!

Quick Facts About Ryan:

Name: Ryan Baer

Year and Dorm:  Junior, Stanford

Hometown: San Jose, CA

Major: Finance

Relationship Status: Single

Describe yourself in three words: Laid back, contemplative, straightforward

Favorite Mr. Sketch Scented Water Color Marker: Bubblegum. It may have been pink, but that didn’t stop me.

Favorite Song EVER: Gerry & the Pacemakers-You’ll Never Walk Alone. Always puts me in a good mood.

Weirdest thing you’ve ever done: I was in an ice cream fight at an off-campus party last year. The walk home was miserable, but it was worth it.

If you were going to write a book, what would you call it? A self-help book titled The Baer Necessities.

If you could have dinner with any person in the world, who would it be? Fred Rogers, from Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. The outlook he had on life always seemed very refreshing to me.

What the Ladies Need To Know:

Biggest Relationship/Dating Pet Peeve: Girls who are constantly trying to be somebody that they’re not.

What do you look for in a girl? Someone who is laid back, intelligent, fun, and has the ability to laugh at herself every now and then.

What is your biggest deal breaker in a girl? Obsessing about drama and getting caught up in petty things.  Jealousy is also very unattractive.

What is your ideal date? Something casual, maybe dinner and a movie or a walk on the beach

If you had to give a piece of advice to your future daughter, what would it be and why? Believe in yourself, work hard, and follow your dreams. Everything else will work itself out in time.

In the future, what would you say to someone who is trying to date your daughter? All relationships in life revolve around respect. If you respect my daughter, I’ll respect you. Simple as that.

What do you think is a smooth pick-up line? Pick-up lines are overrated.

Time At Notre Dame:

If you could go back to Freshman Year and tell yourself one thing you know now, what would it be? Get more involved in extra-curricular activities, and get to know your professors better. They’re all amazing resources who can help you get to where you want to be.

What is one thing you’d change about Notre Dame? I know it’s not very original, but I’d change the location. It’s almost April and it’s snowing sideways, that’s messed up. (Author’s Note: It must just be these California Boys… The rest of us think the weather’s just fine!)

What is your favorite Notre Dame memory thus far? Definitely studying abroad in Australia. It was a life-changing experience, and the memories I made there will stay with me forever.

What’s one item on your Notre Dame bucket list? Witness a national championship. There’s only one year left, but I still have faith.

Plans for the Future:

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? I’d love to go to Brazil for the World Cup this year, because the atmosphere will be one of a kind, or back to New Zealand. It had some of the most amazing landscapes I’ve ever seen.

Where do you see yourself in 25 years? Maybe back working for a technology company in Silicon Valley, with a family of my own. But I’m also open to whatever the future holds.

Thanks, Ryan!

XO, HCND
