Best Super Bowl 2015 Commercials

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

I’m not much of a sports person, but I always try to catch the Super Bowl for the half time performances and the commercials. I can remember a lot of commercials from previous years and I always look forward to seeing the funniest of the evening. I’m not sure if anything can top the Doritos commercials. This year, I was a tad bit disappointed with the turn out. It seemed as though many of the commercials tugged at the heartstrings with an emotional approach rather than humor, or at least those are the ones that stood out the most. Here’s a summary of some of the best 2015 Super Bowl commercials.

Snickers’ Brady Bunch

I thought this commercial was a great take on a classic commercial and show. Almost everyone is familiar with the “You’re not you when you’re hungry” slogan that Snickers embodies and now they’ve combined it with a classic TV show. This commercial brought a smile to my face and the juxtaposition of the characters was on point.

Nationwide

This commercial has to be one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen. If I were a parent, it would raise concerns for the safety of my child. What started out as a cute commercial with an adorable little boy quickly turned somber when the leading cause of childhood deaths was unveiled. However, Nationwide redeemed themselves with the Mindy Kailing commercial. I would definitely try to kiss Matt Damon if I thought I was invisible too!

TurboTax

This was a great twist on the Boston Tea Party. It’s funny to see how they think people would’ve acted if they could have gotten their taxes done for free. This commercial couldn’t have come at a better time, especially since we are in the midst of tax season. My favorite part was George Washington telling his soldiers to back the boat up!

Always #Likeagirl

I’ve seen this video clip before, but never as a commercial. It was empowering to see and it brings up a valid point about self-esteem in young girls versus teenage girls. It went along with the emotional heart-wrenching theme of the evening. The message that “doing something like a girl” should not be used as an insult is like a breath of fresh air. The little girls were so cute and sometimes I wish I could channel the self-confidence of my younger self. This was a reminder that I can still have the self-confidence of my six-year-old self without being perceived as weak.

Overall, the commercials lacked humor. There isn’t a commercial that sticks out as something that I would watch again when I needed a good laugh. Maybe next year will be better, but I’m not sure if anything can top Katy Perry’s half time performance! I was so excited when Missy Elliot came on stage!

Hey everyone! I love to write and cry over episodes of One Tree Hill (don't judge). My favorite things to write about are fashion and music. I am definitely an animal and plant lover. I'm a South Bend native so in a way, Notre Dame has always been a part of my home.
