7 Reasons We’re STILL Obsessed With One Direction

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

It’s no secret that there’s something about boy bands that makes us swoon—in fact, it’s been scientifically proven that boy bands remind us of our preteen past and we just can’t seem to let them go. (1) That’s why even after FIVE years, we still love 1D just as much as we did when we were in junior high/high school.

Here’s a few reasons why:

1. They’re the perfect group (even without Zayn), with a type of guy for everyone.

Are you into the fearless-leader type one, the silly blonde one, the serious one, or the goofy one? Whatever your type, One Direction’s got a guy for you to obsess over. One of the appeals of boy bands is there’s a “boy for everyone” and One Direction does its job in that Liam, Niall, Harry, and Louis all have unique personalities. Watch some of their video diaries from the early days of the band or their movie “This is Us” to get a glimpse of their lives and everyday shenanigans.

2. Their angelic voices will never get old.

Though some of the boys are more talented than others (sorry, Louis), the way their voices perfectly blend together while crooning that romantic love song will always be perfection. The boys weren’t just put together because of their looks—they were actually hand-picked by Simon Cowell on the X-Factor in 2010. Each of the boys auditioned seperately and made it through the first cut, proving they had the musical chops to perform, and later formed One Direction. Watch some of their acoustic videos like this one to get a full appreciation for their talent.

3. They mess up on stage all the time and it’s adorable.

While some artists rely on elaborate costumes and choreography to attract fans to their concerts, One Direction gives a real performance with almost no choreography or costuming. Donning basic jeans and t-shirts, the boys choose to run around stage instead of dance, showing their goofball sides.  Their interactions with each other and with their fans are spontaneous and hilarious.

4. They’re just cute.

Did any of the boys know they would be heartthrobs to girls everywhere once the 1D phenomenon hit the world?  Probably not.  But were they genetically predispositioned for the role? Absolutely. One Direction remains to be so popular even among older girls because they grow up with us. They are no longer the 17 year-olds singing What Makes You Beautiful. As they’ve gotten older, they’ve become more mature.

5. There’s this article dedicated to pictures of them holding babies.

We love their sweet, sensitive side! Many of the pictures show them holding Lux, the baby of their stylist. As the boys have grown older, fans have seen how adorable and loving they are. With rumors of Louis becoming a dad-to-be, we could be seeing a lot more baby pictures soon…so cute!

6. They just came out with a new song!

Listen to Drag Me Down—their first song as a foursome. In an interview with Ryan Seacrest, Harry promised that “the new stuff sounds good so far” and their fifth album will most likely be released towards the end of the year.

7. WE HAVE TO ENJOY THEM WHILE WE CAN.

I’m no psychic, but I’m guessing that One Direction may not be around forever. They are scheduled to release a fifth album, but still—with Zayn leaving, rumors of a split are on the rise. Now that Zayn reportedly got signed to a record label, fans are getting scared the boys will decide to go their own ways.

Savor these days, ladies!!

With One Direction’s On The Road Again tour happening right now, it’s the perfect time to see them live!
