Meet NU Homecoming Queen, Iheoma “MoMo” Nkemere!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

On Saturday, October 17, Homecoming festivities officially kicked off as Sheridan Road was was filled with floats showcasing school pride. While we may have lost the football game, a couple of people were crowned winners this past weekend. Our new reigning queen of the campus is Iheoma “MoMo” Nkemere!

Major: Psychology, Minoring in Anthropology and Global Health

Age: 21

Hometown: Rancho Cucamonga, CA

What did you think of this year’s homecoming theme?

The theme was “Where the Wild things Are?” which was cool, I guess. Like it’s a cute kids book so it was interesting to see how floats interpreted the theme.

What was your first thought when you were nominated?

Really??!?

What was your favorite moment during the homecoming parade? Homecoming weekend in general?

My favorite moment during the parade was seeing my housemates along the parade route with a homemade poster. It was done out of an old cardboard box with multiple pieces of printer paper stapled to it and it said “Iheoma 4 Pratt Queen” (we live on Pratt so it was cute and punny). I thought it was the sweetest thing ever and was super surprised. It almost brought me to tears, but crying for me is a rare phenomenon. My favorite moment in general was meeting Brody Jenner on the field because I’ve been a fan from the jump. He thought I was funny, and he has helped me set a new personal record on Instagram.

How did you feel when you won?

It all happened so quickly so I didn’t process it. But thinking about it now, I think it’s a true honor and it’s super special, so I’m happy and thankful in general.

What are the perks of being homecoming queen?

Can one truly say there are perks? The only things I can think of are that I now have a tiara to add to my collection and that my dad will finally stop asking me, “Are you making friends at school?”  He’s truly been concerned for the past 3+ years—the answer is yes, dad.

Favorite NU memory so far?

Probably living on the 4th floor of Elder freshman year. My roommate and an overwhelming majority of people from my floor are some of my best/closest friends at Northwestern, so I think that was just pure and amazing luck. Plus we all got to make stupid, freshmen mistakes together so it makes for great stories.
