Meet Jesse “Zeke” Shepherd-Lykken

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

Name: Jesse Ezekiel “Zeke” Shepherd-Lykken
Hometown: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Major: Biomedical Engineering
Birthday: November 27, 1990
Campus Living: Off Campus

Relationship Status: Happily Taken

Guilty Pleasures:
Dance shows/videos (SYTYCD, ABDC), sneakers, baby animals, bacon. I love cooking shows but I can’t cook to save my life. My roommates will vouch for that.

Pet Peeves:
Not much. I’m pretty happy with most things.Squeaky shoes, the word ‘sticker’, anything Wisconsin related

What are you involved with on campus?
Rugby captain/social chair. Member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon (2-time Greek Week chair/loser), Keg-frequenter

What are your future career goals?
I have 3 autistic siblings, who were obviously a huge part of my life growing up, and a lot of why I became who I am today. They’re kind of the reason I became a BME in the first place, I’m very interested in neurology and how to make their lives, and those of people with similar neurological disorders, easier.

What’s your idea of a perfect date?
I’ll pick you up at 10, we’ll head over to my place for some casual Natural Light and Wings Over. We’ll then depart for the Mark II Lounge where we’ll do some karaoke after some pizza and several more drinks. Then a romantic taxi ride through the McDonald’s drive thru on the way home. IHOP if you’re really lucky.

Where’s your favorite place to visit?
Buenos Aires, Argentina. I first visited senior year of high school with my Spanish class (I had my first drink there, too :-0) and it was amazing. I went again with the rugby team sophomore year of college and the experience was much different; I really got to see a deeper view into the not-so glamorous part of the country. The part they don’t show you on the tour. It was really exciting/intriguing/interesting.

Words he lives by:
SAE’s creed, the True Gentleman, is actually something I’ve thought about since I became part of the fraternity. I have the card in my wallet at all times. I was raised a momma’s boy, so I try to stay pretty gentlemanly, contrary to my date ideas.

Future plans:?
Plans? I’m going to Europe in the Summer to do all the stuff I can before I become a real person. After that, no idea. Become as much of a boss as engineers can be and start a family somewhere, once I’ve gotten everything in order. I want to own the Vikings eventually, too, if they still exist by then.

What do you find most attractive in a woman?
Confidence. I love when a girl knows what she has, takes control of it and really works it. I also love a girl that has the drive and initiative to get what she wants. Being a great dancer doesn’t hurt either.

What’s the biggest turnoff in a girl?
I’m fairly open when it comes to people in general but I can’t take a girl that has no sense of humor. If  she doesn’t laugh, or tells bad jokes, I can’t be around her for long.

How would you describe your personality?
I asked someone and they said “goofy and loyal.” Kinda sounds like a puppy to me but I guess that’s pretty true.
