Five Easy Hairstyles Using Only Two Bobby Pins

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

Imagine: You’re warm and you want to pull your hair up off your face but, after digging through your purse, the only thing you can find is a few stray bobby pins! How useless is that, right? Not as much as you might think. Here are five super fun and easy hair styles that you can try!

The Wrapped Ponytail

Step 1: Pull all of your hair into a ponytail. Side ponies work really well for this too.

Step 2: Isolate a small amount of hair at the base of your ponytail, where it’s hidden.

Step 3: Braid or twist this hair. Put one bobby pin at the end of this small section.

Step 4: Wrap your braid around your ponytail where a hairtie would ordinarily go. Use the bobby pin to secure the end in a hidden location, like behind your ear!

Protip: Make sure the bobby pin is pointed against the direction of your hair so that it has something to hold onto!

Step 5: Use a second bobby pin to secure the loose ends.

The Half-Back

This super-easy style is almost the same as what you’d do with a hair tie!

Step 1: Pull the hair that frames the right and left sides of your face (you can also include the top strands, but it’s harder to make the bobby pins hold that much hair!)

Step 2: Secure it with bobby pins! It’s easiest to point them horizontally toward each other, or facing up in an X-shape!

The Side Twist

Step 1: This involves the pieces along your hairline. Begin just to the left of center, pick up two pieces and twist them together a few times.

Step 2: Pick up the next section a little bit farther along to the right and twist it in as well. Continue until the twist is above your right ear.

Step 3: Fasten the twist with bobby pins by tucking them back up under the twist!

The Headwrap

Step 1: This begins exactly like the side twist. However, instead of stopping behind your ear, continue it around your head.

Step 2: Make sure that you pull up all the small hairs at the nape of your neck.

Step 3: Once you reach your left ear, most of your hair should be pulled up. continue twisting it, free from your scalp. Tuck the ends of your twist behind the beginning, over your forehead.

Step 4: Secure with bobby pins.

Protip: This requires some practice! Don’t give up.

The Fishtail Tuck

Step 1: Pull your hair into a fishtail braid. Loosen the pieces a bit to give it a messy look.

Step 2: Wrap the tail of the braid under, towards your neck. Continue rolling it all the way up.

Step 3: Secure the tips of the braid to the hair at the base of your neck.

Happy styling!
