Hey Chicago, Whaddya say? Seriously… what do you say when people are talking sports and you know nothing about it? All major sports are now in season (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL), so sports are probably going to be the topic of most discussions. Here are some quick summaries on each of the major sports teams in Chicago, so you can be in the loop this season.
MLB: Go Cubs Go! Unless you live under a rock, you know that the Cubs are in the World Series. This is a huge deal for the city because it’s been 71 years since the Cubs have last been in the World Series and 108 years since they last won the title. They are matched up against the Cleveland Indians, who were last in the world series in 1997 and last won the title in 1948, so obviously it’s been a while since either teams have made it to the Fall classic (another term for the World Series).
NFL: The Cubs may be doing great this season, but their bigger counterpart, the Bears aren’t doing too well. The Bears are in last place in the NFC North and they’ve only won one game so far. Their starting quarterback Jay Cutler (husband to the famous reality TV star, Kristin Cavallari) had missed five games with a broken thumb and has just recently been cleared to play again. But the chances that Cutler can actually get the Bears back on track are slim.
NHL: The Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in 2015 but since then, they haven’t been a standout team. Last season, they did manage to get to the playoffs but lost in the first round. The NHL season just recently started, so it’s too early to tell how Chicago’s hockey team is doing, but as of right now, they have 3 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw: so pretty unimpressive.
NBA: The Bulls have a completely new team heading into this season. They traded the former face of the team, Derrick Rose, to the Knicks, but now the Bulls have a big three: Jimmy Butler, Rajon Rando and Dwyane Wade. Rajon Rando was a star player for the Boston Celtics and Dwyane Wade, a star player for the Miami Heat. Jimmy Butler has been with the Bulls since he was drafted in 2011. So with a pretty talented roster this season, there’s a lot of hype for the Bulls.
