Run, Don’t Walk to Your Next Race

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.
Running along on a treadmill can get really old, really fast. Who wants to stare at a digital image of a track for 40 minutes—or even worse, the wall?

There’s a better option out there: To mix up your workouts (and keep yourself from getting bored!), take your runs to the streets while the roads are still snow-free. Boston has some beautiful places to run through and around (the Fens, Fenway Park, the Charles River), and as the leaves start falling, the scenery will only get better.

While running outside is a great way to stay in shape, requiring little-to-no equipment (you can leave your yoga mats and dumbbells behind), it is also an activity that may lack motivation if you’re out alone on the open road with no real incentive to push you forward.

Sure, your iPod may be a great way to pump you up—but why not train for a race to work toward a goal?

That way, each time you run, you’ll be training for something important, pushing you to perform better—and get a better workout.

Massachusetts and the Greater Boston area have a ton of races you could potentially enter and train for within the next few months, varying in distance and skill.

Not only will you be helping your body, you could be helping and supporting a great cause just by registering!

Instead of waking up hungover or tired from your weekend night activities, stay in and wake up ready to race!

We’ve compiled a list of walks and races for runners of all skill levels—now get out there and compete!
