The Most Annoying Questions to Ask a Comm. Major

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

So what is Communications?

I hope you’re asking me what communications is as a major and not actually what communications means as a word. Either way you know that it means an interaction between more than one person but I’m not going to get technical and talk about how it’s a transaction because you’re ugly and I don’t like talking to you.

What can you do with a Communications degree?

You can do a lot of things. You can work in marketing, advertising, public relations, human resources, etc. It’s a somewhat broad degree so you can do whatever you really want. Now you tell me what you can do with your master’s degree in English with a concentration in Medieval folklore.

Is it true that all Comm majors are bad at math?

No, only 75% of us are bad at math.

Why not major in Business? It’s much more practical.

What part of “I’m bad at math” do you not understand? Also why major in Business when you can just marry someone majoring in Business?

Why are you a Communications major? I thought boys didn’t major in Communications.

Plenty of boys major in Communications. Sure, a handful of them are gay or incapable of passing the course work of any other major, but there are also some very savvy, intelligent straight men who major in it because it is something that interests them. And because there’s plenty of pretty girls in Comm. classes.

What do you actually learn in a Communications course?

You can learn a lot of things. You can learn about producing in the entertainment industry, the art of public speaking, the influence and use of social and digital media and why boys are so shitty at expressing their feelings.

Why Communications?

Well I was planning on majoring in becoming a housewife but apparently my college doesn’t offer that degree.

What’s a more useless degree: Communications or Sociology?

Philosophy.
