Brooke Kamenoff

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

While most freshmen were busy adjusting to new classes and dorm life, Brooke Kamenoff was ahead of the game. She sought out an internship to gain some valuable experience before her first co-op. And what better place to intern than at Her Campus? Brooke currently spends a few days a week at the HC office in Harvard Square.

Kamenoff initially learned about Her Campus through another club she was involved with at the time. “I found out about Her Campus from HAUTE Fashion, Northeastern’s fashion club. We had been discussing websites / blogs at one of the meetings and Her Campus was one of the ones that came up,” she said.

After browsing the site, Kamenoff instantly connected with HC’s relatable content. “I don’t think I can cite just one reason why I wanted to get involved. I first off loved the website and being able to read about things going on at Northeastern while also reading articles on bigger issues,” she said.

Kamenoff explained that she saw an opportunity to expose herself to a new field.
“During the first semester I was a little unsure of my major and actually ended up switching at the beginning of second semester. I figured I should get an internship to see if this new major was actually something I would be interested in doing in the real world,” she said.

She has definitely taken advantage of her time at HC, gaining exposure to the marketing and management fields on a daily basis. “I’m a marketing intern but I wouldn’t say that limits me to only doing the business side of Her Campus. Currently, I’m working on a program for pre-collegiettes, The Her Campus High School Ambassador Program. For that, I do anything from editing posts that the girls write to emailing the ambassadors each week with fun activities for them to do,” she said.

When asked to describe a typical day on the job, Kamenoff responded, “There is definitely never a ‘typical’ day at the Her Campus offices. Generally, I’m working on either the Her Campus High School Ambassador Program or giveaways. However, sometimes there are other tasks that come up, like putting together all the Spring Break Survival Kits.”

Kamenoff summed up her internship nicely. “The best part of the whole experience is just being able to get involved in so many different parts of Her Campus,” she said. “I’ve learned so much from the internship that I think will be beneficial when I’m applying for co-ops.”

Although the internship has clearly strengthened her resume, Kamenoff revealed that it hasn’t been all work and no play. “There are also times when we’ll go out and do something fun! Just last week, we took a quick break from work to go to the newly opened Pinkberry at Harvard Square,” she said.

Dani Wong is a sophomore at the University of San Francisco, where she is double majoring in media studies and journalism. After her short story was published in a recent book, she decided to explore a new facet of writing and became involved with student newspapers and magazines. Between interning, taking classes, and exploring San Francisco, Dani is embracing the new opportunities that city life brings. Her true loves include traveling, taking photographs, playing sports and anything food related!
