As a first-year student on campus, I struggled to find quiet places on campus where I could sit and study. Because of the restrictions brought by COVID-19, the library was only available to reserve for a couple of hours a week. Last week, I took a tour of campus and found some unique spaces to get some work done. Check these out!

Curry Student Center

The Curry Student Center is a great place to get food and study after. The main floor has a “loud” section where students can eat and study along with a “quiet” section with couches and tables to work at. There are multiple floors to work on, and students have the opportunity to study in a classroom for up to three hours.

I’ve spent at least an hour a day at Curry doing work, and I love it! I’ve recently started reserving spaces in the classrooms too so I have some privacy while attending my Zoom calls.

Shillman Hall

The study space on the first level of Shillman Hall is a great place to work—especially since it’s right next to a Dunkin’ Donuts! There are tables and chairs for students to work at and the building is fairly quiet.

While I like studying at Shillman, I’m not a huge fan of the lack of light in the main study space.

Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex (ISEC)

ISEC is a great place to spend a whole day studying. The first floor has tables, single couches and a coffee shop! The other floors have kitchens, couches and more tables to work out. This is a great space to attend Zoom calls when you don’t want to be in your room!

I love studying at ISEC because of the productive mindset it puts me in. I get my coffee, grab a table, and get right to work!

Khoury College of Computer Science Hall

The first floor of Khoury College of Computer Science (202 West Village H) is another great place to get work done! I enjoy studying at the Computer Science Hall, but I do recommend getting there a bit earlier in the day so you can grab a table easily.

Snell Engineering Basement

The basement of the Snell Engineering building has a study lounge which is rarely full. There are sofas and tables to work at, a water bottle refill station, and a bathroom! I spend hours studying here because there’s a sense of privacy; almost no one utilizes this space. And, of course, it’s great for taking Zoom calls in!
