  1. 1. Mental Health Calls Pilot Program to be launched in NYC in February 2021 November 10, 2020  

    Mayor Bill DeBlasio announced a new pilot program where mental health professionals and trained crisis responders will answer mental health calls instead of the NYPD. The pilot program is going to be in two high need communities and is set to be launched in February 2021. NYPD will no longer answer to non violent calls, regarding mental health.

  2. 2. Lucille Bridges, mother of Ruby Bridges passes away at age 86  November 11, 2020 

    Ruby Bridges became a Civil Rights Activist at only 6 years old when she was one of the first Black students to go to a predominantly White elementary school, thereby championing integration. Ruby described always feeling reassured because of her mother’s guidance. Lucille Bridges passed away at age 86, due to cancer.

  3. 3. Pfizer sells millions of stock after announcing news of their vaccine  November 11, 2020   

    Albert Boula, the CEO and Chairman of Pfizer, sold 5.6 million dollars worth of stock Monday, the same day they announced their coronavirus vaccine to be 90% effective. This is cause for concern because of the timing of the sale, and is raising questions about possible insider trading.

  4. 4. Major lead changes at the Pentagon November 13, 2020

    At the Pentagon, Defense Secretary Mark Esper was fired, and many resignations followed. In his final weeks as president, Trump is replacing many lucrative positions with loyalists as a way to push executive decisions. John Brennan, ex director of the CIA describes it as settling the score.

  5. 5. First Housing complex purchased by and for the Trans Community opens in Queens  November 13, 2020   

    GLITS South in Woodhaven, Queens becomes the first housing complex to be owned by the Black Trans Community. GLITS stands for Gays and Lesbians living in a Transgender Society. It’s the first complex in New York City to be owned by the Black Trans Community.

  6. 6. Tragedy in Mediterranean: 74 Refugees drown off Libyan Coast while making a passage to Europe  November 12, 2020

    More devastation occurred in the Central Mediterranean, as a shipwreck claimed the lives of 74 migrants. This is the 8th incident to occur since the beginning of October. The boat carried 120 people, and 47 of them survived. The search still continues as only 30 bodies have been retrieved. It’s estimated that this year alone at least 900 people have died on the journey.

  7. 7. Austria imposes 2nd lockdown  November 14, 2020

    Austria reported a record number of 9,586 infections last Friday. The country’s capital Vienna, imposed a partial lockdown, but it is expected there will be a national one for at least 2 weeks. Cases also continue to surge rapidly across Europe.

  8. 8. Sputnik V, Russia’s Vaccine to Reach Kanpur, India to begin trials November 15, 2020 

    Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials are to be conducted in Kanpur Medical College next week. Dr Reddy’s laboratories sought approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), and were allowed to begin vaccine trials. At least 180 volunteers have registered, and will be monitored periodically.
