On-Campus Versus Off-Campus Living

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at New Paltz chapter.

Where are you living next semester, on-campus or off? A dorm, house, apartment? These are questions that are probably running through your mind, and where you live tends to have a huge impact on how your semester is going to go. So to help you decide, here is a list of the positives and negatives for both:

On campus: You could be stuck in a cramped dorm with a bunch of people you don’t know.

But within two days, you can’t believe how close you’ve gotten.

Off campus: You choose with whom you live, and usually, it’s your best friends. Also, you have so much more space!

On campus: You have to deal with campus food and the gross feeling you get after eating it.

Off campus: You either know how to cook for yourself or, end up spending all your money on take out.

On campus: Your parents probably cover every expense.

Off campus: You have to begin budgeting your money and soon realize everything is so expensive.

On campus: It’s a huge mistake to ever enter the bathroom without your shower flip-flops.

Off campus: Showering is basically the same as when you’re at home, just with a slightly lower water pressure.

On campus: RA’s make you feel like you’re in lock-down.

Off campus: Freedom!
