Meet Junior Samantha Carlisto!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at New Haven chapter.

Hometown: Somers, New York

Major/Minor: Criminal Justice/Forensic Psychology

Relationship Status: In a relationship

Fun Fact: I’ve been to over 15 countries!

Her Campus: What are you involved in on campus?

Sam Carlisto: I’m Member at Large for Phi Sigma Sigma executive board, as well as the Philanthropy Chair for executive council. I’m also a member of Global Ambassadors and a member of A-team.

HC: What is it like being Member at Large for Phi Sig?

SC: Being MAL is an amazing experience. I really like being someone that the chapter can trust and look to for help when certain issues arise. Phi Sig is one of the most important things in my life, and I want the best for my chapter, which is why I wanted to run for the position in the first place. I knew that I could help make us the best we could be as MAL.

HC: What has Phi Sigma Sigma taught you?

SC: Phi Sig has taught me to never let my voice be quieted. It’s taught me that if I believe in something, I can’t just think it; I have to fight for it, and I can’t just want something; I have to strive for it. I know that sounds super cliché but I would never have the courage and the confidence to do half of the things I’m doing now if it wasn’t for my sisters and Phi Sig.

HC: How was your experience at the Phi Sig Leadership Conference? And what stood out the most to you?

SC: The Leadership Conference was great! There were so many chapters there and getting to meet sisters from all over the country (and even Canada) was pretty cool. I think what stood out to me most was that even though we were all different size chapters and all from different types of colleges and universities, we were all experiencing the same things within our chapter and that just goes to show how connected we all are within our sisterhood.

HC: How was your experience studying abroad? Where was your favorite place to travel and experience?

SC: If you have the space in your schedule, I highly suggest studying abroad because it was the most wonderful experience of my life. I got to immerse myself in so many different cultures and expose myself to things that I could have never imagined. I learned some of the different languages and mannerisms of each country that I got to visit, and I was able to make friends and meet family that I still keep in touch with via Facebook! And I think my favorite place to travel was either Switzerland or Greece. I mean, of course, Italy will always have my heart because that was my home for 6 months, but both Switzerland and Greece were beautiful countries and the people there were so welcoming and kind to us which made our visits there awesome.

HC: Do you have any future plans?

SC: Hopefully I can figure my life out enough so that I’ll have a job and family that I love. I also want enough time and money on my hands to travel the world! My dream job would be Victim Advocate/ Psychologist.
