3 Fun Activities to Get You Off Campus This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at New Haven chapter.

Fall is a beautiful time of year, especially in New England. The leaves changing, the brisk cool air, pumpkin spice, apple cider, sweaters and scarves… I could keep going on and on. Fall is also a time of change, especially the atmosphere and even you. It’s a time to remember what you’re thankful for and to appreciate what life has to offer you. School can be stressful, but once in a while it’s okay to take a deep breath of the crisp fall air and have fun!So, instead of staying in your dorm on the weekends this fall, here are 3 super fun fall festivity suggestions you can go do with friends around The Greater New Haven Area.Hike Sleeping Giant: Sleeping Giant is a beautiful Connecticut State Park right across the street from Quinnipiac University. From UNH, it is about a 20-minute ride to Hamden, CT, which isn’t too bad. It’s a bit of a workout, but the view from the top of the castle is quite a sight to see, as well as the surroundings especially during this time of year.

Apple/Pumpkin Picking at Lyman Orchards: I highly encourage you to check this place out because it is so much fun! What’s better during fall than apple/pumpkin picking, going on a hayride, and getting some amazing pies and apple cider? That’s right. Nothin’. This place is huge, and has so many different kinds of apples– some I’ve never even heard of before! They have an amazing market that has become known throughout Connecticut and beyond as a favorite destination for family fun and great food! Every day they have fresh pies, apple cider donuts, muffins, cookies, breads, pastries, and more desserts made in their Farm Kitchen Bakery (I’ve had their apple pie, and it is to die for). Lyman Orchards is a 30-minute drive from UNH located in Middlefield, CT and is a blast. I recommend it 100%!

Buy Fresh Produce & Bake A Pie: The West Haven Farmers Market is right in town by the Green, a 5-minute drive from UNH. Buying fresh ingredients there and baking a nice pie back in your dorm can be a really fun activity to do on a Saturday afternoon with your roomies!

Happy Fall everybody!

Jill Perniciaro is a Junior at the University of New Haven studying Criminal Justice. She is a Long Island gal at heart but is loving New England more and more every day. Even though her major is unrelated to writing/communications; the entertainment world of TV, movies, fashion, beauty and music is her side passion. Eating, watching movies, going to the gym, shopping, and bowling are also things she likes to do. Jill's fav animals are giraffes, monkeys, and otters. Her favorite color is purple, she loves the Weeknd with all her heart and she's most likely wearing her RayBan's cause she doesn't like to squint. She is a sister of Delta Phi Epsilon and she is hoping to pursue a career in Crime Scene Investigation.
