The second season of Sam Levinson’s Euphoria was finally released on January 9th after a 3-year delay due to COVID-19 and even after the delay, the show still seemed to keep its popularity. Euphoria is an HBO Max show starring Zendaya and is based on teenagers navigating through their own problems such as sexuality, drugs, and mental issues. I, myself, am actually a fan of the show and always look forward to the episodes. However, recently, Sam Levinson has disappointed me with his lack of continuation on the characters. It seems like Levinson has created a brand new Euphoria, which was the purpose, but it almost seems like he lacks in some parts of the show, like unexplained stories and forgets to include some of the characters. I will soon get into detail of the characters I’m talking about, but it feels like he leaves some stories with no ending or just starts stories with no explanation.

BB

From the beginning, we see BB’s presence together with Maddy’s crew here and there. However, we don’t know anything else about her. Who exactly is BB? She wasn’t introduced as a character in the first, so why is she the only character from the friend group that wasn’t officially introduced as a main? Maddy, Kat, Cassie, and even Lexi had their own episode, but why not BB? She randomly appears and disappears from the group. Why is she even in the show if Sam Levinson doesn’t plan on giving her much screen time? In fact, Cal had his own episode and Ethan is also a supporting character who has been present since season one, but has more screen time than BB. I think we can all agree that BB is a mood and I would love to see more of her.

Ethan

As I previously mentioned, Ethan has been a supporting character since season one and was first seen as Kat’s love interest and developed through season two. He had much more screen time than BB and slightly more screen time than Kat as a stage actor. At this point, Levinson should’ve officially introduced Ethan as a main character. We, the audience, have definitely seen a good amount of Kat scene’s and I think we should start learning more about Ethan. Overall, I like Ethan and I hope we get to see more of him.

Mckay

McKay was a main character that was introduced in season one as Cassie’s love interest and Nate’s best friend. From what I remember, McKay is a college freshman, but still manages to appear in some episodes in season one because of his relationship with both Cassie and Nate. However, in season two, we didn’t get to see him at all. Except in the first episode where he was basically a cameo. At the New Year’s Eve party, McKay was seen asking for Cassie and seemed like he never got the chance to meet with her. Did the producers really not tell us what McKay wanted to talk to Cassie about? I’m sure it was about Cassie’s abortion, but, how come we never saw their conversation, unlike Jules, who found Rue and spoke to her? Is Sam Levinson really not gonna show us Nate and McKay’s side of the story as best friends and him dating his ex-girlfriend? I think they would’ve had a juicy storyline.

Overall, I think this season lacked and could’ve put together a nice, smooth storyline for everyone. However, I do have some lingering thoughts on the show. My other thoughts that are still questionable are:

  • The luggage Rue lost. Are we just gonna forget that Rue lost a whole luggage of drugs and basically owes her body to Laurie, who we know nothing about anymore?
  • What happened to Tyler, the guy who got framed? Both Maddy and Nate framed him because of her loyalty to him. But because Maddy is mad at Nate, wouldn’t she go back to the police and state that Nate threatened both of them into framing Tyler?
  • I think Nate actually likes Jules and uses Cassie as an excuse because she looks like her and can’t be with Jules. The vague scenes of both Jules and Nate together has made me think of this theory.
  • Why did Fez take two episodes to get ready for Lexi’s play? I think his scene was unnecessarily long.
  • Does Lexi not know that Fez got raided? There was a scene that was supposed to be after the play when Rue told Lexi that she loved it and I feel like by that time, Lexi should know about Fez’s situation. The transition from present to past or present to future throughout the show was also a bit too much.
