5 Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NCAT chapter.

Halloween has snuck around once again! For the last couple of weeks college life has been all about writing papers and study cram sessions. With all of that real scary stuff behind us, it is now safe to start breathing again as well as start thinking about what last minute costume can be thrown together for this weekend’s festivities.

A lot of times we stress over what we should be and where we can find a last minute good quality costume for a good price. Little do we realize, we already have a fully stocked costume shop in our closets!

There are a number of last minute costumes that can be made from just a few items in your closet!

1. A Cowgirl.

With one of the latest fashion trends being plaid shirts, this costume should be a bit convenient for most. Pair this plaid shirt with a pair of comfy jeans, cowgirl (or cowboy) boots, and possibly a farmer’s hat and VOILA, your costume is complete! To further accessorize the ‘fit, you could even add on a belt with a nice and bold buckle. For this costume, no real makeup is necessary. Just some good ‘ole mascara and eyeliner should be enough for a cowgirl on this fun filled night.

2. An Angel.

To ward off all of the evil spirits  this Halloween you can easily be an angel! To achieve this costume all you would need is that old white dress sitting in the back of your closet. You could also use a cute and dainty gold chain around your forehead as your halo. For this look a little foundation, mascara or feathery falsies, with a killer highlight, and a soft lip will do the job just fine!

3. Catwoman.

Ever since Catwoman first hit the scene back in the 40’s she hasn’t let us down yet. This quick and easy costume can be achieved by simply wearing cotton, faux, or real leather leggings. As far as the top portion of the costume is concerned, a fitted black V-neck top could do. You could also wear a fitted leather jacket or zip up. Easy, right? This costume look is definitely sophisticated and bold, so a sophisticated winged liner and bold red lip would definitely be the perfect makeup look to captivate Catwoman and all of her fierceness.

4. Rosie the Riveter.

Surely we all know who Rosie the Riveter is, but have you thought about her as a possible Halloween costume? With a simple denim button-up and a solid red or red and white polka dot scarf as a headband, and a pair of jeans is an easy solution to solve your costume problems! A simple winged liner and a little red on the lip would also be a fun and fitting makeup look for this costume.

5. Beyonce.

If you still aren’t quite sure what to be for Halloween you can be Beyonce or a Beyonce backup dancer. That’s right! Reach right into your closet and “put ya freakum dress on!” A killer dress and a pair of killer shoes will always do the job when going out. We know Beyonce doesn’t wear loads of makeup, but her makeup is definitely always dramatic in someway, so a sparkly and glittery eye paired with a soft and neutral lip would be the perfect accessories for this costume!

If you just can’t find anything at all, it’s okay, it’s only Halloween, it’s only a night and it’s all for fun! You could always be yourself and enjoy the night for all that it is essentially; a night for scary movies and candy. Just make sure that whatever you decide to be is not offensive or could be considered as cultural appropriation. Oh, and most of all, don’t forget to have fun!

Aspire to inspire.
Hi everyone! I am a sophomore at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University who should be majoring in Weddings, but is actually a Journalism & Mass Communications student with a concentration in Multimedia. Originally I am from Woodbridge, Virginia, which is about 30 minutes south of our nation’s capital. I have lived here all my life, but I’m not afraid to branch out and explore the world. This past summer I studied abroad in Sydney, Australia to engage and immerse myself in Australian culture. The experience was phenomenal and I’m already counting down the days until I can return that beautiful country. Check out my Tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook.
