Reading is one of my favorite things to do. I find reading really calming, because when I read I get transported into the world of the book I’m reading. Over winter break I read a few books, and this is what I thought about the books I read!

  1. Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There by Lewis Carroll

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll was an assigned book in one of my classes last semester and since Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There is a continuation of it I decided to read one night while I was babysitting. I had loved Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland so I thought I would love this book as well. While it was good, I felt it was a little boring. It may have been because I was reading it at 1 am, but I just couldn’t focus on it. Unlike Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, this book doesn’t have as much action. It is mostly Alice wandering through a forest, which is actually a huge chessboard. I would give it 3 out of 5 stars.

  2. Looking for Alaska by John GreenReading this book hit home for me, but not because of anything in the book itself. My cousin told me to read about 4 years ago after she had finished reading it and shortly after she died suddenly. So reading this book was very personal. Without giving anything away (incase you haven’t read it), I found that I really related to the way the main characters felt. It really helped me understand that sometimes we don’t really have any explanations for what happens around us and that is ok. I really liked the way this book was set up, before and after I feel like it adds more build up to the climax of the book. I’m sure like a few of Green’s other books this one will be a movie soon so read it before it becomes one, books are always better than movies! I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

  3. The Boy Most Likely To by Huntley Fitzpatrick    This book is a kind of a sequel to one of my favorite books My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick. While it isn’t a traditional sequel, because the characters narrating the story are different from My Life Next Door, it has all the same characters. Taking place shortly after My Life Next Door ends, this book gives you an insight into Sam’s best friend’s brother (Tim) and Jase’s older sister’s (Alice) life. I really liked this book. It answered many questions the reader would have about these two characters in the original book. I loved this book, but not as much as My Life Next Door. I would give this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars.

  4. The Cellar by Natasha PrestonThis book isn’t for people who are extremely squeamish. I am not one of those people thanks to my love of watching Grey’s Anatomy. This book tells the story of what happens to Summer after she is kidnapped and forced to live a life as Lily, one of four perfect flowers. When I started this book I thought I would read for a short time then go about the rest of my day. Boy was I wrong!! I was hooked by the 3rd chapter. I finished the book that day, I couldn’t put it down, I just had to know what happened to Lily, Rose, Poppy, and Violet. I did say the extremely squeamish shouldn’t read this and that is because there is a lot of murder and blood going on. While the murders aren’t described super vividly, there is a lot going on in the cellar where these girls are kept. I would NOT suggest reading this at night, or you wouldn’t be sleeping well. I really liked this book. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars.

  5. The Crown by Kiera Cass

This book is the fifth book in The Selection Series. While this book wasn’t my favorite of the series, I did like it. This book is about future Queen Eadlyn finding the love of her life in a group of 35 suitors. Of the Selection Series my favorite would have to be the book called The One by Kiera Cass. The Crown is a book of twists and turns and doesn’t give you hints about whom Eadlyn will choose as her husband until it happens. The reader finds out who it is as Eadlyn finally allows herself to admit it. I’m not going to lie my love of the previous books, especially the first three, gave me really high expectations for this book. That being said I had hopes for this being a 5 out of 5 stars like The One had been, even thou it wasn’t, I still really enjoyed reading this book. I would give The Crown 4 out of 5 stars.

Overall, I would 100% recommend all of these books for everyone to read. But if I had to choose one, I would say you should read The Selection Series by Kiera Cass, maybe it is my love of fairytales or my want to be a princess, but I absolutely love this series. It is a favorite of mine. Happy Reading!!!
