Hype Review: The Kylie Jenner Lip Kit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mville chapter.

The hype for the Kylie Lip Kits is real. I love makeup and I like to treat myself every now and then to higher end makeup. When I first learned that Kylie Jenner was releasing her own line of liquid lipsticks, I was screaming. Screaming mainly because the lip queen herself was coming out with her own lipsticks that she created. That’s HUGE.

I believe Kylie can be overlooked. Many people saying she’s just a stuck up rich girl because she comes from the womb of Kris Jenner who is also the mother of the Kardashians. They say because she is associated with this huge family that she doesn’t work for what she wants or does anything special. She has proved by starting her own makeup line that she is working for what she wants. In several interviews I’ve heard Kylie say that this was a dream of hers because she loves makeup.

So, let’s talk about my excitement when my lip kit finally came. 9am PST time the lip kit was available on Valentine’s day. That meant for me it would be 12pm EST time. I waited and waited and once the clock finally hit 12pm, I never clicked so fast in my life. I knew the color I wanted to get was True Brown K. I don’t own a brown lip color and I thought the color was absolutely stunning. I also did want to purchase Dolce K, but I knew by the time I made my account on the website that it would probably be out of stock. Sure enough, it’s one of the first colors to go. True Brown K was the last to sell out and lucky for me I finally got one. I spent 38 dollars for that one lip kit and yes, it seems like a lot especially for a college student, but I had a good feeling that it would be worth it.

A week later it came in the mail and I was so excited! I did an unboxing of the lip kit on my snapchat and decided to not wear it until I made a video for my YouTube channel. Yes, I make beauty and fashion videos for all of you beauty enthusiasts. It’ll be posted on my YouTube channel beautycharmxo in a couple of days. For a whole week I kept the lip kit on my desk in my dorm room, feeling so tempted to open it and wear it. I wanted to show it off. My roommate Alex said and I quote “You’re probably the only girl at Manhattanville to own one!” The thought of that got to my head and I realized, she was probably right.

I finally went home for the weekend and was ready to try my lip kit on camera. Let me just say I was highly impressed. The lip pencil glided on SO smoothly and so did the liquid lipstick. It was pigmented and it smelled like chocolate cake batter. I was so in love. I took a million selfies of course and made sure I had the right light. I even made sure I wore simple eye makeup with some false lashes to get the right “Kylie Look”. I think I pulled it off quite well.

Is it worth it? Well, I like to say it depends on you. If you’re willing to join the hype, pay 38 dollars just for one lip kit and will wear it endlessly then why not. If you’re not into makeup and don’t think you’ll get any use out of it then maybe you want to avoid purchasing one. In my opinion if you love makeup as much as I do or if you take an interest in Kylie Jenner then why not give it a try? It has to be the best liquid lipstick I own mainly because it’s not as drying as the other ones I have and it lasts for so long! Even after eating greasy pizza I had fabulous lip color. I’m not saying this to make Kylie look good, I’m giving my honest opinion. She did an amazing job in providing quality cosmetics! I felt like it was something I could buy at Sephora.

Congrats Kylie on such a huge success! I can’t wait to get my hands on more colors and even more cosmetics you make in the future.
