Does My Astrological Sign Spotify Playlist Match My Music Taste?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Murray State chapter.

I’m that annoying person in the car that skips through the entire CD (yes, I still play CDs!) or goes through every radio station before deciding on a song. My friends hate it! I am obsessed with finding new music, but sometimes I don’t know where to start. I end up finding two songs that I like and then listening to only those two over and over on repeat until I’m absolutely sick of them! I was trying to think of other ways that I could find music that I might like, and then it hit me. One of our writers from Her Camus always posts on his Instagram story about a playlist that is linked to your sign. Coming from someone who barely knows what my sign is, I was curious as to whether or not I would actually like any of the songs that my Spotify Aquarius playlist recommended. Let’s find out!

Friends Don’t Kiss Friends by Studio Black and Emily Burns

This song is actually a bop. I was going into this playlist not expecting much because I’m super picky about music, but starting off strong because this song is super upbeat and catchy-my ideal song. Also the subject is too real, man. She is basically asking for the dude to DTR which…aren’t we all. I could see myself listening to this on my way to class hard core dancing in public, of course, or in the car on a long drive when I just need to think!

The Joke by Brandi Carlie

I’m not a sappy song kind of gal. I prefer my music to hype me up instead of make me feel mopey and sad. Brandi Carlie is an artist that I have never heard of before, but her voice and the violin in this song are so serene. To be honest, I’m not really sure what this song is actually talking about, but it is really pretty if you like slow songs that are really passionate and powerful. I feel like this song would be perfect for a rainy day drive when you’re in your feels (or want to be!).

Good Day by Greg Street and Nappy Roots

I had heard this song before. I mean, who hasn’t? This is a song that I could see myself listening to while I’m cleaning my room and just want something that puts me into a good mood and brightens my day. I’m legit about to play it when I wash my dishes after I finish this article! Something about singing the lyrics actually puts me in a great mood! Aquarius or not, you should all definitely check out this song!

Free Me by Joss Stone

This is not something that I would normally listen to, but it is so fun! Joss Stone is such a strong, empowered woman, and I love it! Her voice is so smooth, and she sings with such sass. This is a song that I would add to my Strong Woman playlist on Spotfy! Check this out if you like female singers, strong women, or just want something to dance around to in your kitchen with your headphones all the way up. Photo courtesy of Mohammad Metri

Honestly, I feel like this playlist does not match me at all, but I will admit, I’m super picky when it comes to music. However, I did love the first song! It will be on repeat for a while! So not to say that I’m now a believer that astrological signs have anything to do with anything, but hey, it helped me to find some new music, so I’m not complaining! At least now I won’t annoy my friends by skipping through every song on the radio!
