Women’s Health: 15 Ways to Cure a Hangover!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Muhlenberg chapter.

So, you drank too much, huh? Happens to the best of us. It’s okay, though. As human beings, we’re not perfect, and sometimes we make the mistake of ending up with a hangover. Sucks, #amIright?

You might be:

  • Tired
  • BLAH
  • Throwing up, still?
  • Weak
  • Nauseous
  • Headache-y
  • Sweaty
  • Hot AF
  • Flu-like
  • Can’t move
  • Bloated?

If you’re feeling these things, don’t worry! Here are a few tips to help you through this difficult time in your life.

1. EAT EGGS!

I’m not kidding in any way, shape, or form. If you’re not vegetarian, eat eggs. There is something in eggs called Cysteine that helps break down the bad toxins from alcohol that are lingering in the body. IT REALLY WORKS.

2. HYDRATE!

Seriously, drink water throughout the day. In fact, don’t go anywhere without water. Water will become your best friend. You’re going to need it from being so dehydrated from so much alcohol.

3. COCONUT WATER!

Electrolytes! Potassium! Energy! Hydration! If you’re into coconuts, coconut oil, or other things coconut, then you’ll be into coconut water. It will really blast your hangover away!

4. Zzzz!

Sleep as much as you can.

Every nap you take, every move you don’t make, every single snooze will help get rid of the booze, and you’ll feel renewed.

5. FRIED & GREASY FOOD!

I’m telling you, and I don’t know why, but it works— Whatever foods float your boat in the morning – whether it be eggs, bacon, hash browns, pancakes, burgers, fries – eat it up, soak it up! Eggs, first, of course.

*And if you don’t eat animal products: soy bacon drizzled with some olive oil and fried in the pan, paired with a tofu scramble is also delish (if you can stomach it, of course)!

6. EXCEDRIN MIGRAINE!

If you have a headache, it’s really bad, and you can’t even sleep, invest in some aspirin. It’ll help.

7. FRESH AIR!

The groundhog saw its’ shadow, so Spring is coming! If you’re hungover, go outside and just sit, chill, sleep, lay down, whatever you can do. The fresh air will lift your spirits and make you feel alive again!

8. BANANA!

If you’re a minion, you’ll understand.

In all seriousness, bananas have tons of potassium, just like coconut water. Eat it whole, make a smoothie, add it to your PB&J, anything. But if you feel weak, this banana will help you out!

9. THROW UP!

If you’re throwing up and just can’t help it, don’t worry. Don’t try to stop yourself from letting your body naturally react to the alcohol. If it’s happening, just let it happen. Your body needs to get it out.

10. BACK RUBS!

If you’re hungover, it’s always nice to have someone rub your back as you try to fall asleep. It’s a nice touch to a shitty feeling. Try it! #hellyeah

11. SPRITE!

Seriously, someone told me once that Sprite cures hangovers, and I didn’t believe them. But that was my bad because Sprite worked for me and it could work for you, too! If you don’t mind drinking soda, drink Sprite! But don’t forget that Sprite has tons of sugar so drink water with it.

*Disclaimer: there doesn’t seem to be definitive evidence that supports Sprite being good for hangovers, however, there has been research done. BUT if it works for you, cool!

12. CRACKERS!

If you can’t stomach food, be a hamster and nibble small amounts of crackers, like saltines. It won’t do much for your body other than keep you from being super hungry.

13. HOT SHOWER/BATH!

What else can I say other than pamper yourself and feel better with a nice warm shower or bath so you can feel clean and open! #facemask #bathsalts #LUSH

14. LEMON WATER!

I’ve talked about it before, and I’ll talk about it again – lemon water is LEGEN… wait for it… DARY. Literally, it cures everything. Am I exaggerating? Maybe. BUT legit it’s wonderful.

*If you’re bloated from the night before, never fear! Lemon water is here!

15. Last but not least, YOGA!

Namaste your hangover away with a very easy-going, relaxing, calming, and meditative yoga practice. It will most certainly ground you as well as release the negative (your hangover) in your body. Even if it’s just for an hour, try it out! Yoga always helps.
