Let’s Help Each Other Study Languages With italki!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

Being college students, nearly all of us have to take at least one foreign language course during our study. However, there is more to learning languages and they should not be taken just to satisfy the graduation requirement. Learning a foreign language is indeed helpful in many ways. It opens up better job opportunities, makes it easier to travel to places where we can speak a bit of the language, improves our memory, helps us stay sharper for longer by delaying the onset of Alzheimer and dementia, and broadens our knowledge of different cultures as well as many other things.

However, learning a foreign language is not easy. A useful website that may help in your learning process is italki.com. This is a place where you can find language partners in various dialects who can help you practice languages effectively. Also, there are many helpful articles that offer tips on studying foreign languages.

Let’s see how it works!

First, you need to register for an account. Then, select the upper right button and choose “Edit Profile”. You can fill in your personal information, what the language you want to study is, what your first language is and some other basic information.

After that, click “Save”. Now, select “COMMUNITY” tab and then “Language Partners”. Choose the language you want to practice, and select some filters to find your suitable language partners.

When you have found your potential language partners, you can click on their names and add them as friends by hitting “Add as Friend” or send them a message through “Send message”.

You can also teach other people your native language or ones that you’ve learned and are good at. This is a fun yet effective way for you to understand your mother tongue better or to review the languages that you have already studied.

Additionally, you can also read very helpful articles here: https://www.italki.com/articles. You can click on “Learning All languages” and select the language you want to study to read only articles about studying that language.

Let’s make it fun and exciting to study a foreign language! And don’t forget to help others study your native language!
