How To Revamp Your Room While You’re Stuck At Home

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

I think we have all come to the full realisation at this point that our lives are going to look a little (and by that I mean a lot) different for a while. Colleges and schools have moved online, and everyone is staying home. I know that being stuck in your house can suck, and the world is scary and anxiety-inducing, but that is not how I am choosing to look at it. I am not suggesting that we don’t take the Coronavirus seriously (stay at home) but there is so much potential good that can come out of this terrible situation! I have really been able to pursue things I love with my newly flexible schedule, namely putting a lot of work into my YouTube channel, which I never had enough time to do at school. My most recent and all consuming project, however, has been completely redecorating my space. I didn’t buy any new decor or spend any money at all, but moving around my furniture for a little bedroom revamp has totally altered my mood. I can be so productive with a designated and inspiring workspace! So without further ado, here is how to revamp your room to create an inspiring environment that you almost want to be quarantined in.

Being bored with your space is easy when the furniture arrangement has been the same for years, and doing a little reorganizing works wonders! I had my bed and desk in the same spot for what seems like forever, and I didn’t think my room would work any other way. By spending a moment thinking a little outside of the box, I now have an arrangement that makes my room feel so much more spacious and open.

This tip is perhaps the most crucial, especially now. If you have to complete your classes from home now, getting into a school work mindset can be tricky, especially if you are working on your bed. Creating a designated workspace by setting up a desk is an incredible way to revamp your space while also helping your productivity. If you don’t have a desk, a small table or just a corner of your room or apartment can do in a pinch.

I spend a lot of time on pinterest, browsing beautiful photos of bedrooms with fairy light canopies and color-changing LED lights. But you don’t need to go buy extra stuff to make your room cuter and more inviting. I personally like to move around or swap my preexisting decor. I also have a handy can of gold spray paint that I have used on everything from makeup brush holders to bookends, and it easily changes the look of accents in your room. There are also easy DIY decor products which you can create for free. One of my favorites that I am currently working on is simple but so pretty: tear out your favorite images from an old magazine and create a collage on your wall!

I hope that these tips make your space a little more inviting, and being stuck at home a little more enjoyable!
