Ghosts of Las Vegas Nights Past

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

Let’s get one thing straight: Las Vegas Night is an awesome night. Mount Holyoke may not throw huge campus parties that often, but when we do, we do it right. That being said, all awesomeness aside, Vegas Night can lead to some pretty bad choices amongst all the fun – drinking too much, walking around in next to nothing, and hooking up with someone you probably should have ditched on the dancefloor. But what’s a girl to do? Often you don’t realize that the guy in your bed isn’t Mr. Right until you wake up the next morning and realize not only is he soooo Mr. Wrong, but you don’t even know what letter his real name starts with. If anything, you can heed the warnings of Mount Holyoke students that have come before you. Here are a few of their stories – hopefully you can avoid similar rude awakenings.

“I was dancing with some friends when I bumped into this guy. I’m not going to give his name, since this story is embarrassing for him, but he seemed really nice and fun, so we started dancing together and having a really good time. He was definitely drunk, but so was I so it wasn’t a big deal. My friends kind of drifted off to do their own thing so I stayed with him, and everything was great. Then like an hour in, he got a text from a friend and had to leave, but he said he’d be back. When he never showed up again, I was pissed. But a few days later he added me on Facebook and we talked for a bit – turns out he was wayyy more intoxicated than I thought and had passed out in the bushes outside Abbey, where pub safe found him later in the night. I can’t tell you how glad I was that I didn’t take him home with me!!”

“There was a guy that I had hooked up with a few times earlier on in the fall semester, and we ran into each other at Vegas night. I won’t give his name, but I will say he was from Amherst College. So I really liked him at the time, so when it came time for him to either leave or stay, I brought him back to my room. We hooked up, and I guess it was okay, but afterwards, he completely took over my bed. He just sprawled out on his stomach and pushed me to the side. I mean, like, kicking me to make more room for himself!! He left on the first bus the next morning and I immediately went to bed. But the next day, as I was cleaning up, guess what I found? HIS UNDERWEAR. Yes, he left without his underwear! Needless to say, we didn’t see each other again.”

“I hooked up with a guy on the dancefloor at Vegas Night. After grinding and making out for a bit, I went back to my friends. He was cute, but I wasn’t all that drunk and honestly I was having a better time with my friends. But when the party ended, I ran into him in Chapin’s lobby and my roommate invited him back to our dorm for an afterparty (I blame her for this story). We hung out with a bunch of random people for a while, made-out in the kitchenette for a while (embarrassing) and then eventually just passed out in my bed. Nothing else happened, which I was happy about. But the next morning he hung around for ages. He came to brunch with us, he waited around while I showered, he helped clean up, he had lunch… there was seriously no getting rid of him. Finally my roommate and I made up some excuse about having to go to Holyoke or something and told him he should go. He called me for months afterwards. Stage five clinger. It was a nightmare.”

Although this certainly doesn’t encompass all the crazy sh*t that goes down on LVN, these might be some of the best horror hook-up stories we’ve ever heard. So proceed with caution, dear Mohos – make good choices, but take a few risks, and enoy your night. Just be sure whoever you take home leaves in a timely manner – and takes his underwear with him when he goes!
