The Best Thrift Stores in the Valley

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

Looking for the best thrift stores in the valley? Well, we’ve got the inside scoop on the best thrift stores in the area. These are the best vintage stores, and they are only a PVTA ride away (or a 20 minute car ride). Why not check them out?

Before shopping for vintage clothes, there are a couple of tips that you need to know. First, check to see if the buttons are sewn properly and that the zippers work on shirts, pants, and skirts. If you aren’t the type of person to replace them, then don’t buy the item. Secondly, check for stains; you don’t want someone’s nasty coffee stains on your new jeans. Last but not least, the best part about shopping for vintage pieces is that you can splurge. Take a chance, buy pieces that you wouldn’t usually wear, and rock them.

If you like chunky belts, unique jewelry, cowboy boots and a great selection of sunglasses then Sid Vintage (18 Crafts Ave., Northampton) is the place to go. This tiny vintage punk store in downtown Northampton has racks and racks of fashionably worn out T-shirts, jackets, hats, jeans, and kitten heels.  Sid Vintage is not as cheap as the Salvation Army, but it is definitely affordable and worth it.

Don’t want to rummage through the Salvation Army for hours? Than Roz’s Place Vintage & New Clothing (6 Bridge St., Northampton) is the place to go to find new and used clothing. There is a huge selection to choose from, and where else can you get cowboy boots for twenty-five dollars?

If your willing to make the trek, then Glamourpuss Vintage Clothing (206 Russell St, Hadley) is the place to go to get unique skirts and dresses. This literally glamorous store is full of day clothing and racks of old costumes, which makes playing dress-up fun.

Of course, we all know that the best place to go for the best prices is the Salvation Army (310 Russell St., Hadley). You can find great pieces for as cheap as fifty cents at the Salvation Army in South Hadley. Rummage through those one-dollar bin boxes; the pieces are incredible and very inexpensive.
